Which Skoda wagon is best for me?

Skoda has a reputation for making cars that are great value and often give you more room for your money than most of its competitors. Skoda station wagons certainly meet both of these requirements.

There are three to choose from, but how do you decide which one is right for you? Here is our complete guide to Skoda station wagons.

How do Skoda station wagons differ from hatchbacks?

The word station wagon is used to describe a car with a long roof and a large trunk. They are usually based on a hatchback or sedan, as is the case with Skoda wagons. Compare the Skoda Octavia hatchback and station wagon (below) and you can clearly see the difference.

Station wagons give you the same technology and driving experience as the models they are based on, but they have a boxier and longer body behind the rear wheels, giving you more practicality and versatility. They also often give you more passenger space, with a flatter roofline that creates more headroom in the back seat.

What is the smallest Skoda station wagon?

Fabia Estate is Skoda's smallest station wagon. It is based on the small Fabia hatchback (or supermini) and is one of two new supermini station wagons being sold in the UK, the other being the Dacia Logan MCV.

Despite the fact that the Skoda Fabia Estate is small on the outside, it is big on the inside. It has 530 liters of boot space, which expands to 1,395 liters when the rear seat is folded down. That's more space than the Nissan Qashqai. Shopping bags, baby strollers, flat furniture or even washing machines will fit easily.

Being a supermini, the Fabia is more comfortable for four people than for five. But if you're looking for maximum practicality in an economical car that fits into a small parking space, this might be ideal.

What is the largest Skoda station wagon?

The Superb is the largest of Skoda's non-SUV models. It is usually compared to cars like the Ford Mondeo, but is actually closer in size to larger cars like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Superb has an incredible amount of room, especially for backseat passengers who are given as much legroom as some luxury cars.

The trunk of the Superb Estate is huge - 660 liters - the Great Dane should be quite comfortable in it. There are several other station wagons with equally large trunks when the rear seats are up, but few can match the Superb's space when folded down. With a maximum capacity of 1,950 liters, the Superb has more cargo space than some vans. This might be just what you need if you're renovating your home and making many hard trips to DIY stores.

Between Superb and Fabia is Octavia. The latest version (sold new as of 2020) has 640 liters of luggage space with the rear seats up – just 20 liters less than the Superb. But the size difference between the two cars becomes apparent when you fold down the rear seats, as the Octavia has a comparatively modest 1,700 litres.

Who makes Skoda?

The Skoda brand has been owned by the Volkswagen Group since the early 1990s. It is based in the Czech Republic, also known as the Czech Republic, where most of the cars are made.

Skoda has a lot in common with other major brands of the Volkswagen Group - Audi, Seat and Volkswagen. Engines, suspension, electrical systems and many other mechanical components are used by all four brands, but each has its own style and features.

Are there hybrid Skoda station wagons?

The Superb Estate and the latest Octavia Estate are available with a plug-in hybrid engine. They were labeled "iV" and went on sale in 2020. Both combine a 1.4-liter petrol engine and an electric motor.

According to official figures, the Superb has a zero-emissions range of up to 43 miles, while the Octavia can travel up to 44 miles. This is enough for an average daily run of about 25 miles. Both require several hours to recharge from an electric vehicle charging point.

Because hybrid system batteries take up a lot of space, Superb and Octavia Estate plug-in hybrid models have slightly less trunk space than their petrol or diesel equivalents. But their boots are still very large by and large.

Are there Skoda sports wagons?

The high-performance version of the Skoda Octavia Estate vRS is fast and fun, though not as exciting as some other hot hatchbacks. It has more power than any other Octavia Estate and looks a lot sportier with different wheels, bumpers and trim, while still being a practical yet very comfortable family car.

There's also the Fabia Monte Carlo and Superb Sportline, both of which have sporty styling details but handle more like conventional models. However, the all-wheel drive Superb Sportline with 280 hp. even faster than Octavia vRS.

Are there all-wheel drive station wagons Skoda?

Some Octavia and Superb models have all-wheel drive. You can recognize them by the 4×4 badge on the trunk lid. All but one have a diesel engine except for the top of the range, 280 hp petrol Superb.

All-wheel drive models are not as economical as all-wheel drive models. But they feel more confident on slippery roads and can tow more weight. You can even go off-road in your Skoda station wagon if you buy an Octavia Scout. Sold from 2014 to 2020, it has rugged off-road styling and raised suspension, making it very capable on rough terrain. It can also tow more than 2,000 kg.
