Kalina-2 or Lada Priora? What to choose?

Since these are the best-selling cars in Russia, it is between them that most potential owners are now making a choice.

It is worth noting that although these cars are located in slightly different price categories, it is still quite difficult to choose between them. Below we will consider the main pros and cons of each model, as well as compare their equipment and configuration.

Move Kalina-2 and Priors

More recently, the most powerful engines ever produced by Avtovaz were installed on Ladakh Priory. They had 98 horsepower in stock and a volume of 1,6 liters. But a little later, these motors began to be installed on Kalina even of the first generation, so at that moment they were on the same level in this comparison.

But more recently, the situation has changed dramatically in favor of the cheaper Kalina 2 car, since now it is equipped with the most powerful power unit in the line of all models, which develops 106 hp. This motor is paired with a new 5-speed gearbox, which has a cable drive. So, the most powerful engine can be obtained only with the purchase of Kalina-2.

As for simpler modifications, 8-valve engines with a lightweight piston are still installed on both the Priora and Kalina. The downside of all these engines is the fact that if the timing belt breaks, the valves meet with the pistons and the engine will have to be expensively repaired.

Comparison of bodies, assembly and corrosion resistance

If you look a little into the past, then the undisputed leader in the resistance of bodies to corrosion was Kalina, which even for 7-8 years has no traces of corrosion, but Priora lost a little in this. As for today's modifications, the body and metal of the new Kalina is the same as on Grant and it's too early to talk about corrosion resistance.

As for the build quality of the body and interior. Here the leader is Kalina 2, since all the gaps between the body parts are minimal and made very even, that is, the joints are almost the same from top to bottom throughout the body. In the cabin, everything is also made more collected. Although the dashboard and other trim parts on the Lada Priora are of better quality, for some reason there is more squeak from them.

Interior heater and comfort of movement

I think that many owners will not have a drop of doubt that the stove in Kalina is the best of all domestic cars. Even at the first speed of the heater, in the winter season you are unlikely to freeze in the car, and as for the rear passengers, they will also feel comfortable, because nozzles under the floor tunnel go to their feet under the front seats, through which hot air comes from the heater.

On Priora, the stove is much colder, and you have to freeze there more often. Moreover, due to the fact that there are no rubber seals on the doors (below), cold air penetrates into the cabin faster than on Kalina, and the car interior cools down much faster.

With regards to ride comfort, here we have to pay tribute to the Priora, especially at high speeds on the highway. This model is more stable at speed and maneuverability surpasses Kalina. The suspension on the Priora is softer and swallows road irregularities more smoothly and imperceptibly.

Prices, configuration and equipment

Here, in all cases, the new Kalina 2 generations loses, since it is more expensive than its competitor. Although a few months ago, when the first generation model was still produced, the Priora was somewhat more expensive. As for the equipment, the most expensive version of the Priora is cheaper than the new Kalina, but it has a plus such an option as cruise control.
