Caravaning - traveling with a motorhome

What is caravanning?

Caravanning is a type of car tourism in which a caravan is the means of transportation. What does this word mean in English? Of course, it can be a caravan, motorcade, van or caravan, but nowadays it will most often be a motor home or a caravan.

The history of caravanning begins at the beginning of the XNUMXth century in England. It was then that lovers of motorhomes and recreation in the bosom of nature decided to create the world's first caravan club, which they called "Caravan Club". Over time, such organized movements and formations were created not only in Great Britain, but also in many other countries.

Caravanning came to Poland in the 70s, that is, only 50 years after the creation of the first association of motorhome users. The initiator of internal actions was the Polish Automobile Association.

Motorhome - Motorhome, Trailer or Camper?

The essence of caravanning, of course, is in the means of transportation. Most often, this will be a classic motorhome, which is why such trips seem to many to be a relatively expensive pastime, but is it really so?

Of course, as with any other vehicle, prices vary greatly.. An exclusive motorhome bought from a car dealership can cost a million zlotys and more, but if you look for second-hand examples, you are sure to find worthy offers for less than 50 zlotys. However, it should be borne in mind that buying a used car is usually associated with the need for appropriate repairs before leaving the road and more frequent maintenance of the vehicle.

A motorhome can be a more economical alternative to a motorhome. Although you need to have a car to use it, most people already have one. In addition to the lower price, this solution has another important advantage.

When using a campsite, you can leave it on its territory and go to explore the city or other tourist attractions in your small car, which is much easier to park than a traditional motorhome. This is a great option primarily for those who need a car daily for commuting, and caravanning is only for entertainment on holidays or weekends.

Another increasingly popular option is traveling by camper. Such transport is a delivery or passenger car, the interior of which is converted into a living space. By choosing a cheap used car and making modifications with your own hands, you can prepare your own camper for little money, but it is worth remembering the measure of strength for intentions. If you do not have experience in this type of work, you do not have the necessary tools, it may turn out that this option will not be the most profitable.

They are extremely popular throughout Europe, especially in the tourist areas of Spain that are frequented. In such places, you do not have to worry about access to running water, electricity or a kitchen, because in most of them access is free. In addition, they often have attractions for children and adults.

Traveling "through the wild" is also a form of caravanning. In this case, travelers stand in free places, for example, on the beach, in the forest or in the parking lot. The big advantage of such a solution is, of course, savings, but that's not all. This type of travel also allows you to be more independent and discover new places. However, be aware that in some countries camping outside of designated areas may result in the risk of heavy fines.

This type of travel will be a good choice for people who are not bothered by the lack of amenities, such as access to electricity or sanitation facilities. Deciding on it, you should take care of a sufficient amount of water. You can take it in large barrels or use an advanced filter that will allow you to safely use water from a lake or river. If you cannot imagine camping without electricity, it is better to equip your car with a solar inhaler of sufficient power. This solution is perfect for summer days in southern Europe.

Is caravanning an expensive sport or a budget way to travel?

Caravanning can take many forms. If you want to move around in a motorhome bought in a salon and stay in expensive campsites, this will certainly require large financial costs. However, it is enough to buy a used car and make some interior modifications yourself in order to be able to enjoy the delights of nature and travel the world without incurring large fees. Of course, this is not entertainment intended only for the richest people.
