The VAZ 2107 car has long become a classic of the domestic auto industry. However, not all owners know that the model is ideal for tuning and various upgrades. What engines is the VAZ 2107 equipped with?
The VAZ 2107 model was produced from 1982 to 2012. Over the 30 years of its existence, the car has been repeatedly refined and changed to more accurately meet modern requirements. Initially, the "seven" was conceived as a small-class rear-wheel drive car in a sedan body. However, in some countries, the VAZ 2107 was finalized and modified, which is why it can be considered a universal car model.

Specifications VAZ 2107 (carburetor)
On the VAZ 2107, a carburetor with a volume of 1,5 and 1,6 liters was originally installed. In the USSR in 1980–1990, almost all models produced were equipped with engines of this volume - this power was enough for trips around the city and country roads. The engine uses AI-92 gasoline to create an air-fuel mixture. There were also carburetors with a volume of 1,3 and 1,2 liters, but they were not very popular.
The carburetor on the "seven" does not have large dimensions: the device is 18.5 cm wide, 16 cm long, 21.5 cm high. The total weight of the entire mechanism assembly (without fuel) is 2.79 kg. The motor works with spark plugs of a certain type - brand A17DVR or A17DV-10 *.
The maximum power was calculated according to GOST 14846: 54 kW (or 8 horsepower).
The diameter of the working cylinders is 79 mm, while the piston stroke can reach 80 mm. The established order of operation of the cylinders is carried out according to the scheme 1-3-4-2 (this scheme must be known to every car mechanic, since if the cylinders are not started, the operation of the carburetor will be disrupted).
The size of the crankshaft is 50 mm, the shaft itself rotates at a speed of 795 rpm. When viewed from the front of the car (radiator side), the crankshaft rotates clockwise. The flywheel installed on the model has an outer diameter of 5400 mm.

The lubrication system on VAZ 2107 carburetors is combined, that is, lubrication of rubbing parts is carried out both under pressure and by spraying. If you follow the recommendations of AvtoVAZ engineers, then you need to fill in the carburetor engine of the "seven" with oils that meet the API SG / CD standard. It is also recommended to select a lubricant according to the SAE classification (Society of Automotive Engineers in the USA). - oils produced by Lukoil of the versions "Lux" and "Super";
- Esso brand oils;
- Shell Helix Super lubricants;
- oils "Norcy Extra".
AvtoVAZ has set the permissible oil consumption during the operation of the car. So, the loss of 0.7 liters of oil per 1000 kilometers is considered acceptable (of course, if there are no leaks).
Where does this rate of 700g per 1000 come from??? This is more like the GAZ-53 norm, at least on the farm where I worked at one time they gave a liter of oil for about 200 liters of gasoline. The engine number is stamped on the cylinder block on the left side, immediately below the distributor. In addition, the number is duplicated in the summary table, which is attached from the bottom of the air intake housing. What engine can be put on the VAZ 2107 instead of the standard one
Some motorists who are used to upgrading cars with their own hands decide to replace the installed motor with a more productive one. Like any other car, the "seven" can be redone and equipped with an engine from another car, but a number of rules should be observed:
- The replacement engine must exactly match the dimensions and weight of the standard device. Otherwise, there may be problems with the operation of the new motor.
- The new engine needs to mate with the existing transmission.

Motors from other VAZ models
Of course, the first thing the owners of the "seven" turn their attention to the engines of other VAZ models. The best option (a little more powerful and more durable) is a carburetor with a VAZ 2114. It fully corresponds to the dimensions of the VAZ 2107 carburetor, but is a more modern and productive device. In addition, you can install a motor with a VAZ 2114 with virtually no alterations - the only problems can arise with the RPD, but they are easily solved.
Motors from earlier VAZ models (2104, 2106) are also quite suitable in terms of their dimensions and weight for the place of the VAZ 2107 motor, however, replacement will not be advisable, since outdated devices will not give the car dynamics and durability.
Engines from foreign cars
On the VAZ 2107, you can also put an engine from an imported car. Ideal for replacing powertrains from Fiat and Nissan brands. INThe thing is that the progenitor of VAZ engines was Fiat engines, they also served as the basis for the development of Nissan engines.

Rotary engine
There was a period in the history of AvtoVAZ when some car models (including the “seven”) were equipped with rotary piston engines. Initially, such installations were distinguished by high productivity, however, the configuration of the VAZ 2107 with such engines had many disadvantages:
- high heat losses, in connection with which fuel consumption was higher than on conventional VAZ carburetor models;
- problems with engine cooling;
- the need for frequent repairs.
You can install a new rotary engine on the VAZ 2107, but the design of the car itself will not allow you to optimize all the capabilities of the car as much as possible. Therefore, rotary engines are not popular among VAZ 2107 owners.
Diesel motors
Motorists, in order to save on fuel, sometimes change gasoline power units to diesel ones. On the VAZ 2107, you can also carry out such a procedure. Again, for replacement, it is better to take motors from Fiat and Nissan. Diesel engines are more economical than gasoline engines, but require increased attention from the motorist, as they are very capricious in terms of maintenance.
