Card games - what are you playing now?

Thousand, macao, canasta, bridge - probably everyone has heard about these games. How about Tichu, 6 takes!, Beans or Red7? If you like maps, be sure to read this article!

From an early age, I played various classic card games with my parents and siblings. After the war, there were thousands of macao, then canasta, and in the meantime, several different solitaire games (yes, the family sometimes could not stand my yoking for the next game and taught me how to lay out cards on my own). I was introduced to bridge in high school and it became the absolute king of my table for many years to come. In any case, to this day I like to sit in one or two dressing gowns. As it turns out, not only classic card games can be fun today!

What have we played before?

Everyone probably has an old deck of Pyatnik cards at home (by the way, have you seen how beautiful cards they make now? I really like these Mondrian-style cards). Remember what you played? I started playing “more seriously” with a thousand. It was easy to tell from the deck - this game only uses nine through ace cards, so they're pretty worn down compared to the shiny white ones! Ah, those emotions when you played a musical, diligently collecting reports, that is, pairs of kings and queens, hunting for high tens with aces - there were times! Then I learned how to play rummy and what is a sequence (i.e. several cards in a row, usually of the same suit) and how to hold fourteen cards in a hand at once - believe me, this is a real test for a child's hand! Another game (I still have an impossibly worn out box of these cards at home) was canasta, a rummy at a slightly higher level of hand and table planning and management. Until now, seeing a deuce in my hand, I am glad that I have such a strong card (there is such a joker in the channel), although I am already playing in a completely different way! And finally, the card of the love of my life, that is, the bridge. The most difficult and at the same time the most intuitive card game I know. The multitude of choices, the languages we use in the game, the elegance of the game - all this means that I will always have a box of good bridge cards in my house - and just wait for partners!

What are we playing today?

The world has changed and so has the world of card games. The number of incredibly interesting, modern titles that are often based on their classic counterparts is breathtaking. Although I love bridge, it takes some time to learn, so today I'm more likely to reach out to Teach, which is also played in pairs with new players. The deck is classically divided into four suits (although these are not spades, hearts, clubs and karts, but their Far Eastern counterparts), and in addition, we have four special cards at our disposal - one denoting the first player, a dog, which allows you to transfer the initiative to your partner, the phoenix, which is a kind of wild card, and the mighty dragon, which is the highest single card. Tichu is addictive and addictive, and time goes by surprisingly quickly with him. So it's no wonder that six hundred and forty-two million Chinese people play this game every day!

6 takes! it is a name that has been with us for more than twenty years! In 1996, it was voted the best brain game by MENSA, which comes as no surprise to me. The rules are very simple - we have ten cards in our hand, which we must get rid of by placing them in one of the four rows. The one who takes the sixth card collects a row, and the cards lying in it give you ... negative points! Therefore, we must maneuver our most seemingly tragic hand in such a way as to catch these penalties as little as possible. I like to play with three people the most, although it can be played with ten people - but then it's a real ride without a steering wheel!

If you like trading a bit, you should definitely try the Beans classic game today. This is the first international hit by designer Uwe Rosenberg, known today for much heavier board games. Our task is to plant and harvest the most valuable fields of title beans. However, in order to do this, we must skillfully trade the seeds that we have with other players - and there can be from three to five of them. When we succeed in making the desired exchange, we plant and then exchange the crop for coins. But can you do it early enough to get more money for your beans than everyone else?

Finally, something completely different - Red7 - a game that hit the market just a few years ago and took the hearts of players around the world by storm. In this seven-based card game (there are so many colors and denominations in the game), we try to be the last player at the table who can still play cards. To that end, we will be constantly… changing the rules of the game! The rules can be reduced to one sentence: "You play or you lose!" – because that's what this cute game is about. Whether we succeed in doing this depends not only on luck, but also on the correct measurement of our movements. You must try this!
