Camping Gear – What's Really Necessary?

How to pack a camper without overloading it? Assuming you are using a rental company, ask the company about the vehicle's carrying capacity. Most of the models offered are campers with a permissible gross weight of no more than 3,5 tons. A “naked” camper weighs about three tons, which means that about 500 kg remains for the crew and personal luggage. Small? Not if we pack wisely!

Baggage? This is an individual matter

On the websites of rental companies we read about the excellent configuration of the cars they offer. Awnings, air conditioners, vestibules, floors, water tanks, sets of water hoses and power cables, adapters, cutlery, pots, cups, bedding, mattresses, grills and, increasingly, electric scooters - all this weighs a lot. They also weigh the crew's personal belongings, which often include items we won't use anyway. So you should choose your camper gear wisely, but don't ask for a specific, one-size-fits-all list—there's no such thing.

Basics and time killers

When planning a trip, we usually find that the list of things to take with us is endless. Before you start packing, it is recommended that you research your travel itinerary. Knowing what your days will look like will make it easier for you to determine what might be helpful and what you can't do without.

When packing your camper gear, keep the essentials in mind first. In addition to a change of clothes, appropriate shoes and provisions, it is worth having on hand: an extension cord (the longer the better - a reasonable length is at least 25 meters), a brush and a dustpan (they help maintain order in the cabin). ), a full gas cylinder (for cooking and also for the parking heater), a gas level meter remaining in the cylinder, leveling pads (useful when stopping, for example, on a slight incline), toilet chemicals (to dissolve impurities more easily, but also to eliminate unpleasant odors), a long water hose, a string for wet towels, a flashlight, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, mosquito spray and time killers (like pocket party games - these will come in handy). in case of bad weather).

Can you win? You will pay!

You may find that you don't need some of the above items, but things like a generator and bicycles for the whole family are a must. Regardless of what your camper equipment consists of, remember one thing: driving in an overloaded motorhome can result in a fine (which can reach several thousand euros!) and, in the worst case, a ban on further driving and towing. vehicle. It's not worth it.
