Keratin hair straightening at home - we offer how to do it yourself

Do you dream of straight strands, but do not want to use a straightener every day? There are other, less invasive ways to achieve this effect. I'm talking about keratin hair straightening. How to carry out this treatment at home? Check out our tips.

Smooth and straight flowing hair is a versatile hairstyle that is timeless. Suitable for almost any type of beauty. This does not require styling. However, this is a styling that, contrary to appearances, requires a lot of work. Of course, there are happy owners of perfectly straight hair - although this happens more often than in our latitudes in Asian countries, whose inhabitants have a genetic predisposition to such strands.

Straightening vs Keratin Straightening – Which is Better?

The most common way to straighten your hair is to use a flat iron. This easy-to-use device will help you achieve the effect of perfectly straight strands in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, regular treatments usually damage the hair structure, increase its porosity and dry it out. This is the effect of high temperature, as well as mechanical stretching of the strands with a “press”. All of this makes using a straightener definitely not the best solution in the long run. Keratin straightening may be better. It has advantages over a rectifier in at least some aspects:

  • treatment frequency - the straightener must be used every day to maintain the desired effect, while keratin hair straightening is a procedure carried out every few weeks or even months,
  • effect on hair - the use of a rectifier clearly negatively affects the structure of the strands. Keratin straightening, which consists in injecting a natural building material - keratin into the hair fibers, has a positive effect on the condition of the hair,
  • effect after straightening - when using the device, the hair can be perfectly straight, but smooth - not necessarily. You can often feel their dryness and porosity. Meanwhile, the use of keratin noticeably improves their appearance.

Keratin straightening - what is it?

Keratin used for straightening is a protein that penetrates the hair structure and restores lost hair. Effect? Straight, smooth and easy to detangle hair. The effect of such a procedure delights with its silkiness - the hairstyle sometimes even creates a mirror effect, which is so familiar to us from the advertising of cosmetics and is most often considered unrealistic.

Keratin hair straightening at home - is it profitable?

Many people prefer to carry out such procedures in hairdressing salons. Having heard about permanent straightening for the first time, it is impossible not to associate it with a specialized therapy that requires professional cosmetics and devices. However, there is little truth in this. Yes, keratin hair straightening should be carried out using appropriate products. However, nothing prevents you from doing it at home.

Home keratin hair straightening - how to do it?

You can perform keratin straightening at home only if you have an iron, and not any - it must be heated to at least 230 degrees Celsius. Before buying a keratin straightening kit, you should clarify the parameters of your equipment.

What should be included?

  • cleansing shampoo,
  • preparation with keratin,
  • air conditioning.

Home keratin straightening should take place as follows:

  1. washing hair with a special shampoo,
  2. applying a keratin preparation to wet strands,
  3. hair drying,
  4. hair straightening at 230 degrees,
  5. re-washing your hair after 30 minutes,
  6. applying the conditioner included in the kit to the hair,
  7. hair drying,
  8. re-straightening.

In the case of an operation in a hairdresser's, there are much fewer steps. When carrying out the procedure at home, do not forget to follow this order - otherwise the straightening efficiency may decrease.

Keratin hair straightening - what to remember?

As you can see, keratin straightening is quite a laborious process, but its effect can really surprise you. However, it is worth remembering one more very important step, which must be preceded by the entire procedure. Before using the drug with keratin, it is necessary to conduct an allergy test. This may turn out to make you sensitive, effectively preventing this type of straightening.

The intense smell of the drug can irritate the sense of smell and mucous membranes, so be patient. You must also remember to avoid skin contact during application.

The straightening effect lasts for at least a few weeks. With subsequent washes, the keratin is washed out, and the hair gradually loses its original smoothness and begins to curl.

Keratin Hair Treatment – Possible Side Effects

It is generally accepted that keratin straightening is good for hair. While protein itself is a natural element of the hair structure and its use is beneficial for it, the temperature used to carry out the treatment is not. Therefore, it should be used with caution, without overdoing it with frequency. Otherwise, the hair may become dry and dull, and their porosity will increase.
