Kia Soul may disappear from the firm's lineup due to lack of sales

Kia Soul is one of the cars that the brand popularized in 2015 as it is a small all-rounder with a unique design. The Soul could now be in danger of the Kia Seltos as the company has no plans for a new generation or an electric version.

The Kia Soul is a car that is very easy to recommend. Whimsical, functional, and packed with features, the Soul offers plenty of features at a relatively affordable price. However, the same can be said about, who joined the line last year. And as Kia looks to the future, there may not be room for both.

"Now we're seeing Soul and Seltos interact," Russell Wager, Kia's vice president of marketing, said in an interview at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday. The two vehicles overlap in size and feature set, and Kia has found that customers come to the dealership wanting one but often leave with the other.

What is the difference between Seltos and Soul

“The Seltos comes with all-wheel drive, but the Soul doesn’t,” Wager said. "That was one of the things we always hear from Soul customers." He reiterated that he had no plans to release an all-wheel drive version of the Soul. “No, it's not. It won't."

Asked if Kia plans to continue selling the two models together, Wager said the Soul still has a loyal following in southern markets where all-wheel drive is not required. But in the Northeast and Northwest, customers are "walking in Soul and out of XNUMXWD Seltos."

Soul sells better than Seltos at the moment

However, Soul sales did not fall completely. In fact, the Soul still outsells the Seltos. But these numbers are declining. The Soul's heyday came in 2015, when Kia sold 147,000 2020 units; in the year the company sold less than half. Meanwhile, the Seltos continues to gain momentum.

The case for the Soul gets even more complicated as Kia moves into its increasingly electrified future. The current Soul EV was supposed to be sold in the United States, but those plans were cancelled. And in the face of the upcoming EV6 and a number of other EVs, the next-generation electric Soul seems even less likely.

For now, at least, the Soul looks stable, with naturally aspirated and turbocharged models and an X-Line trim for those who want to look like an SUV like the Seltos.
