Newsreels captured the moment a $70,000 GMC Sierra Denali plunged into a lake.

Losing a car in a natural disaster can be tragic, but it's even more tragic to watch your $70,000+ GMC Sierra Denali sink into the water due to an unintentional oversight. This happened in Illinois when a news outlet captured the moment on video.

People have the worst luck at boat ramps, especially when there are cameras. Too many times have we seen viral Facebook posts of vehicles rolling backwards into the water, unseen until divers brought them back to dry land. However, this one is a little different considering it's a $70,000+ that was caught missing in a lake by a nearby news crew.

The car could not stay on the platform

An ABC News Channel 20 film crew was filming at Springfield Lake in Illinois when an expensive van began to float down the water. It seems that the ship was launched successfully, but for some reason GMC did not sit still. The owners watched it sink and bubble, making many hand gestures along the way; On the other hand, who can blame them?

The truck was empty at the time of the fall, although it appears to have been in operation at the time. There are no reminders of faulty parking brakes or transmissions for HD Sierras like this, so it could have been operator error, but not that anyone wants to hear it.

In the end, the good news is that the GMC Sierra was saved.

That night, the Sangamon County rescue team found the truck, though no comment was made on its condition. It's reasonable to assume that its leather interior is pretty wet right now, and that a diesel-powered Duramax could very well be a cast-iron paperweight. We hope they have farmers' insurance.

The broadcast clip has since been widely shared on social media, racking up more than 670,000 likes on TikTok. All commenters noted their favorite part of the video, such as when the cameraman asked, “Do you think they need a ride?”

It's a bad deal for everyone involved, but at least no one got hurt. It's important to note that no matter what you drive, whether it's a hybrid crossover or a 7,000-pound pickup truck, you probably don't stand a chance against the lake.
