China takes aim at Toyota LandCruiser Prado - new LDV D500 Pro with 90Nm of torque ready for off-road battle

The LDV D90 Pro is aimed at the Toyota LandCruiser Prado.

LDV has unveiled its latest weapon in the fight for off-road SUV supremacy: the LDV D90 Pro is a powerful answer to the Toyota LandCruiser Prado.

Unveiled at a series of Chinese auto shows this year - and almost certainly made its way to Australia - the LDV D90 Pro boosts off-road confidence across the board.

This story begins with the LDV bi-turbo-diesel engine now powered by the (current) LandCruiser Prado with 500 Nm of torque.

In fact, the power of the brand's 2.0-liter four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel has been increased by 20 percent, opening up 160kW and 500Nm.

Incidentally, the Prado puts out 150kW and 500Nm of power, giving the LDV instant power bragging rights.

But that is not all. LDV says its D90 Pro is also equipped with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with a new "all-terrain suspension" system that includes double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, with a new anti-roll bar and a whole package. , according to the brand, "has been perfected by the world's best chassis performance experts."

There's also a BorgWarner transfer case, an all-terrain intelligent all-wheel drive system, and a lockable rear differential.

It's also offered with a "professional off-road kit" that further expands the list of equipment, including 18-inch wheels wrapped in off-road rubber, a hobo tube, skid plates and plastic-coated wheel arches.

Price? In China, the LDV D90 Pro only costs $46,335.
