Škoda Fabia Combi 1.4 16V (74 kW) Luka

The Škoda Fabia with its recognizable, but at the same time restrained and for many too boring form does not hide the fact that it dates back to the last century. The Czech woman also does not hide that she is targeting those customers who can afford an affordable car in their wallet, but whose favorable price should not damage their overall image. Even the last Fabia (Combi) test convinced us that this Skoda is still in good shape when we know what we get for the money invested.

In the case of the test Fabia Combi with the name of the Luka technique and some of its accessories, the buyer should show a good three million tolar, which may be a lot, but again not if you look at the cards laid out.

The port is therefore not a new Škoda, but a special Fabia equipment that can be combined with other engines (most of them, depending on the version chosen) and body styles (sedan, wagon and van), and is considered an Ambiente equipment upgrade. Equipment does not play such a small role in the decision to buy a car, especially if there is a limited amount of money.

The port pampers with a four-spoke steering wheel, adjustable in height and depth, with ABS, aluminum hex wheels, automatic air conditioning, remote central locking, (only) two airbags, non-removable roof antenna (convenient anti-theft protection, slightly less affordable solution for car washes), front fog lights, on-board computer (his knowledge is extensive: average and current fuel consumption, information on travel time, average speed and the amount of remaining fuel in the tank), height-adjustable driver's seat, electric front spike ...

It is also nice that the rear-view mirrors are painted in body color. All you need is a radio, maybe some metallic paint (screaming yellow?) and a luggage net, which is a necessary accessory in the black "hole" in the back if you don't want the edge to move from one end to the other while driving .

In addition to the exterior lettering, you also recognize the port by the special interior upholstery (the dashboard is available in black or black and beige), a slightly redesigned gear lever, leather steering wheel and leather handbrake lever. The combination of the most powerful in-house 1-liter petrol engine with 4 kW (74 hp) and Luka equipment with some additional features does not require more than three million tolar, which is a good price.

The otherwise sterile interior, featuring (German) precision workmanship and well-placed buttons, soothes passengers and cares for their well-being. The front seats provide solid lateral support, while the rear seats can comfortably accommodate two people less than 180 centimeters tall (if the front seats are not long). The trunk basically has 426 liters of space, a fairly low boot lip and a large opening that covers the heavy tailgate.

Thanks to the split rear seat (one third and two thirds), the useful liters of the luggage compartment can be increased to 1.225 liters, and the usability of the boot can be increased by the 12V socket and side boxes. Just remember about the safety net, as the trunk is really big and it is difficult to find a competitor in this class of cars. Even the body-like Peugeot 206 SW with its 313 liters does not fit. In roughly the same circle of buyers as those waiting for the Fabio Combi, there are buyers of small limousine vans.

We tested the port along with the most powerful version of the 1-liter unit, which can produce 4 kilowatts (74 hp), for which the engine must be accelerated to 100 rpm. About 6.000 horses are powerful enough to drive even faster. Don't expect distortions (despite a hundred), even strong dynamics, on the hills you want more torque, and consolation will be the readiness of the engine to rotate at higher rpm and a really good five-speed manual transmission. It's a shame that even this VAG product has such an infinitely long clutch pedal, otherwise the joy of shifting would be even greater.

The Fabia Combi also maintains freshness thanks to its good suspension and balanced chassis, which makes driving comfortable, safe and therefore reliable. The most powerful Fabio Combi Luka engine consumed an average of 8 liters of fuel with a minimum measured consumption of 3 liters and a maximum of 7 liters per kilometer.

Unfortunately, Fabia Combi Luka does not have a “soul”, but it does have a package and a price that attracts (especially elderly) customers who do not see an object of worship in the car, but a reliable and convenient means of transportation. It will be difficult for a small family to find a more useful car. For this price.

evaluation

  • The equation is simple: calm grip design, great ergonomics of the (boringly designed) cabin, an engine that has no problem spinning, a huge trunk for this class of cars, and a small hardware upgrade that customers love. It's worth it.

We praise and reproach

large trunk

secure position on the road
