When you can safely pour Russian oil into the engine of a foreign car

Most owners of foreign brands of cars believe that only foreign brands should be poured into the engines of their cars. In fact, this is by no means a dogma, according to the experts of the AvtoVzglyad portal.

To pour oil into the engine of your “German” or “Japanese”, on the canister of which the logo of some “Lukoil” or “Rosneft” with “Gazpromneft” flaunts, is somehow scary, you must agree. Indeed, at service stations of official dealers of foreign car brands, foreign-made lubricants are used. Personal phobias of car owners from the series “no matter what happens” in the engine-oil business are still relevant, as in the ancient times of the USSR, when everything foreign was, by definition, considered better than domestic. And objective facts have little effect on these beliefs.

In fact, the reality is that you can pour oil (suitable for viscosity!) into the engine of your foreign car from any manufacturer, but with one condition: it must have the approval of the car manufacturer.

If such a certificate is present from the oil manufacturer (and all major domestic “oiler” companies inform everyone and everything about such “approvals” at any opportunity), then do not be afraid to use this lubricant in your car. The main thing is that it is suitable for the motor in terms of viscosity (according to SAE) and applicability to the type of engine (according to API). In this case, nothing bad will happen from switching from foreign to domestic oil.

Most likely, the motor will even get better. The fact is that foreign oils usually fit into very strict standards for the content of sulfur and phosphorus in their composition - the environment is above all, you know! For Russian oils that are in circulation on our market, a noticeably greater presence of these chemical elements is allowed. And they, by the way, most seriously reduce friction in the motor.

Russian oils, other things being equal, should protect the rubbing parts of the engine from wear better than foreign competitors.

By the way, you should not forget that many oils of international brands have been made in Russia for a long time. We won’t reveal a special secret if we say that a number of oils from such brands as Shell, Castrol, Total, Hi-Gear and some other less popular “imported” products are bottled here. That is, in fact, a huge number of Russian owners of foreign cars, unaware of the fact that they have been using domestic motor oils for a long time. And for them, switching to a similar product, but under a domestic brand, is nothing more than a formality.
