When do you need to change the oil in the gearbox?

Unlike engine oil, transmission oil needs to be changed much less frequently. Moreover, some car manufacturers guarantee the normal operation of the gearbox during the entire operation of the car.

If combustion particles get into the engine oil and it changes color over time and turns black, then the gearbox is different. The gearbox or automatic transmission is a closed unit and does not interfere with other components. Accordingly, there can be no impurities in the transmission oil.

The only thing that can cause it to darken is mixing it with the smallest particles of metal, which is formed as a result of constant friction of the gears. But even in this case, the change in the color and characteristics of the oil is practically minimal, and even then - after a very long mileage of over 70-80 thousand km.

When is it necessary to change the gearbox oil?

There are several cases here:

1. According to the manufacturer's regulations. Depending on the manufacturer, replacement can be carried out from 50 to 100 thousand km.
2. With a clear change in color and the appearance of chips, which is extremely rare.
3. When climatic conditions change. The gear oil should be selected according to the climate. The lower the average daily temperature, the thinner the oil should be.

It is recommended to fill in synthetic oils in order to reduce friction between transmission parts and prolong the life of the unit.
