When wrapping a car with a film will bring harm

Many motorists paste over their cars with a special anti-gravel film. The purpose of such a film is to protect the paintwork from all kinds of scratches and chips that inevitably occur during the operation of the car.

When wrapping a car with a film will bring harm

It should be noted that all films are divided into two types: vinyl and polyurethane. The first in their properties are more like plastic, they can stretch only when heated. Polyurethane films are similar to rubber, as they are able to elastically change their size.

Another disadvantage of vinyl films is their susceptibility to low temperatures. In the cold, they simply tan, as a result of which they are easy to tear and damage the paint. Of course, polyurethane films are more attractive, but the cost of such material is much higher than that of vinyl. Due to the eternal tendency to save money, car owners run the risk of getting more harm than good from pasting with a film.

Hidden development of corrosion

First of all, you need to understand the technology of applying the film. It turns out that the film can be glued only on impeccably flat surfaces, on which there is not the slightest damage. A small chip or tiny scratch will cause further damage to the coating.

The fact is that a kind of “greenhouse” is formed under the film, where air does not enter, and the temperature can rise quite high. All this leads to the development of corrosion: the damage “spreads” and becomes covered with rust. A film may simply swell on a plastic bumper, but a metal body in such a case will require repair.

Violation of the application technique

Preparing for pasting is another extremely important stage. The surface of the car should not only be perfectly smooth and clean. In addition, it needs to be treated with special compounds, thanks to which the film will “lie down” much better. Also, all protruding parts must be removed from the car: door handles, side mirrors, and so on.

All this is a very painstaking business, so small services that provide film application services often neglect these rules. Breaking the technology speeds up the process and lowers the costs, but in the end, the owner will get a damaged car. The film is glued unevenly, or it will go very quickly with bubbles, creases and bumps.

Low quality material

Of course, it is worth mentioning the quality of the film itself. It has already been said above that it is more correct to use polyurethane, but its cost is several times higher than the cost of vinyl. In addition, there is a wide range in prices regardless of the material of the film: the lowest level starts from 700 rubles per linear meter, while a really good film costs at least 5 thousand rubles for the same value.

The desire to save money will let the motorist down again, since a low-quality coating may not even withstand the sun's rays. Often, a deformed film can only be torn off together with paint, and then you will have to spend a lot on restoring the body.

Thus, if you are going to cover your "swallow" with a special protective film, then you should only contact large service centers with a good reputation. Make sure that the paintwork is tidied up before pasting, and choose only high-quality expensive film. Under these conditions, the film will become a reliable protection against damage and will not bring you unnecessary trouble.
