There are a number of popular methods aimed at accelerating sobriety. Probably, many party-goers will be drawn to them after the New Year's fun. The AlcoSense study explores which methods are most commonly used.

Other solutions are often used as well. These include cold showers, exercise, drinking coffee, and fatty foods. One in four people, when asked how to cope with excess alcohol, indicated that they did not use any methods to speed up sobering up and made them wait.

Waiting is a smart approach, as the above measures may make you feel better, but will not speed up your alcohol metabolism. Active physical activity alone can help to a very limited extent. If you want to get rid of alcohol, you will have to wait for your body to handle it. Unfortunately, there are no miracle cures for sobering up faster, says Hunter Abbott of AlcoSense Laboratories.

Although the physiological mechanisms of hangovers are not entirely clear, our malaise is the result of ethanol digestion and its side effects. A bad state is usually a sign that alcohol has already left our body. On the other hand, feeling good in the morning after a busy evening can be a daunting task. This condition is most often the result of alcohol still circulating in our body.

If we plan to drive a car, we should not rely only on our own feelings. It is worth taking a breathalyzer to check if we can actually drive a car.

It's really impossible to estimate how much a person can drink without creating danger on the road. It depends not only on the gender and weight of the driver, but also on the efficiency of the metabolic process - and this is a very individual matter. It should also be remembered that the more alcohol we drink, the longer it takes to neutralize this substance in our body. It is often better to postpone the planned trip so as not to risk losing your rights and, above all, not endangering yourself and other road users.
