Compact for the holidays - what will fit in the trunk of the 10 best-selling C-segment cars?

Many factors influence the decision to buy a new car. For most of us, the main selection criterion is the price. Equally important is the list of standard equipment, the type of engine and its power, and appearance. In Poland, cars of the C segment are most often chosen. This is a compromise between compact dimensions on the outside and spaciousness for passengers. Compact is a car that is well suited not only in the city, but also as a family trunk during vacation trips.

The times when the spaciousness of the cabin affected the capacity of the trunk and vice versa are long gone. There were a lot more cars. However, one thing has not changed. A spacious and adjustable boot is still one of the key elements of a family planning a long trip. In connection with the above, I decided to check what surprises me in this matter of the 10 most popular CDs in Poland.

Skoda Octavia

A model that has been on the podium in the sales rankings for many years. In 2017 alone, Skoda sold 18 Octavia vehicles in Poland. The car convinces not only with good equipment, affordable price, but, above all, with a large interior space. Not without reason, many believe that the current incarnation of Skoda claims the C + segment. The car is available in two body styles - in the form of a limousine with a liftback and a full-fledged station wagon. The trunk capacity in the liftback version is an impressive 179 liters, and in the station wagon as much as 590 liters. Skoda Octavia it even outperforms its competitors. An additional advantage of the Octavia's cargo compartment is its correct shape. However, the whole thing is spoiled by a too high loading threshold.

Opel Astra

This is a car that the Poles have feelings for. As the only one on the list, it is produced in Poland. Produced since 2015, the model is available in two body styles - hatchback and station wagon. The previous generation sedan complements Opel's lineup, which is still available at dealerships. The most important award he received Opel Astra V - the title of "Car of the Year", awarded in 2016. Trunk capacity is disappointing - 370 liters with standard seats is not enough. The station wagon is doing much better - 540 liters of trunk volume, an almost flat surface (without a clear loading area) and the correct shape are the strengths of the Opel compact.

Volkswagen Golf

The dream of many Poles. The car is delivered as a role model. This is the seventh generation of the hit Volkswagen. The model still does not shock with its appearance - this is its strength for many. Volkswagen Golf available in 3D, 5D and Variant versions. Despite the fact that he is already old, he still enjoys unflagging popularity. It is also the winner of the Car of the Year award - this time in 2013. The station wagon version poses a real threat to the Octavia due to the capacity of the luggage compartment. The capacity of 605 liters with the seats folded down is solid. For the hatchback version - 380 liters - this is only an average result.

Ford Focus

One of Golf's most dangerous contenders. It won the hearts of buyers with precise steering and a sporty suspension that, for many, is even advanced. This is one of the most stable compact cars on the road. Ford Focus it is available in three body versions. The hatchback version is disappointing, unfortunately, with a trunk capacity of 277 liters - a very poor result. The situation saves the opportunity to abandon the optional spare wheel - then we will win an additional 50 liters. The station wagon has an almost flat floor and an enlarged luggage compartment of 476 liters. The alternative is the sedan version with a trunk volume of 372 liters. The disadvantage of this version is the high loading bar and the hinges that go deep into the hatch, which significantly limits the functionality of the Focus case.

Toyota Auris

This is the second generation of the Toyota Compact. The first one replaced the popular Corolla model in Poland. The former model name was retained for the Toyota 4-door sedan. The model, famous for its reliability, has a solid foundation in the automotive market. The biggest downside to the Auris trunk is the wheel arches that limit space. In this aspect, the designers did not succeed very well. Toyota Auris The capacity of the luggage compartment is also small. The hatchback version has a luggage compartment with a capacity of 360 liters, the station wagon - with the catchy name Touring Sports - with a capacity of 600 liters. The result of the latter puts him at the forefront of the rankings.

Fiat Type

Great hope of the Italian manufacturer. A hit that hit the sales charts. Gained recognition due to the advantageously calculated price and good equipment. The first model after the Stilo to be offered in 3 body styles. So far, the sedan has been the most popular. The trunk, despite its impressive size - 520 liters, is impractical. The biggest disadvantages of this version are the small loading opening, irregular shape and loops that penetrate deep inside. The station wagon is better in this regard, and the power of 550 liters is a good result. The most praise goes to the hatchback version. In the trunk capacity category Fiat Type in this version, it achieves the best result in its class - 440 liters. A minor drawback here is the relatively high loading threshold.

Kia Cee'd

The first generation of the model became a bestseller. The second, despite 5 years on the market, still has a loyal fan base. Kia impresses above all with a long 7-year warranty and a well-developed service network. Cee'd is available in two body styles - both hatchback and station wagon. The offer also includes a sporty 3D version called Pro Cee'd. In the case of the 5D and station wagon versions, the trunk makes a good impression. In both versions, we have the correct shape of the trunk, but, unfortunately, the loading threshold is too high. In terms of capacity Kia Cee'd reaches the middle class. The station wagon has a capacity of 528 liters, and the hatchback - 380 liters.

Hyundai i30

The latest generation of the model was presented quite recently - 1,5 years ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. There are only two body options - hatchback and station wagon. With a capacity of nearly 400 liters for a hatchback, Hyundai i30 ranks high in the rankings. Station wagon with a result of 602 liters only slightly loses to Golf and Octavia. An interesting alternative to both versions is the recently introduced sporty Fastback liftback.

Peugeot 308

Third winner of the "Car of the Year" competition in the ranking. Peugeot received this award in 2014. A car with a controversial dashboard design and a small steering wheel that has been praised by users. Peugeot 308 available in hatchback and station wagon versions. An interesting-looking station wagon will surprise you with a spacious and easily equipped luggage compartment. With a result of 610 liters, he becomes the leader of the rating on a par with the Skoda Octavia. The hatchback must recognize the superiority of its rivals. However, 400 hp is still one of the best results in this class.

Renault Megane

Another car of French origin. Renault Megane stylistically, it belongs to the larger model - Talisman. This is the fourth generation of the model, which is available in three body styles - like: hatchback, sedan and station wagon. The biggest advantage of the hatchback version popular in Poland is the large and adjustable trunk. The volume of 434 liters is a very good result. The Grandtour station wagon offers a large luggage compartment - it really is 580 liters, but it lacks the best in its class a little. The good news is the low download threshold. The Megane sedan has a luggage compartment volume of 550 liters. The disadvantage of this version of the body is poor functionality and a too small loading opening.

Summation

At present, sales of compact cars have grown significantly. You no longer need to look for a middle-class car to have a fairly roomy trunk at your disposal. Many body options are, in turn, a tribute to the buyer. Each of us has different preferences, so manufacturers are significantly expanding their offerings. The announcement did not clearly identify the winner. This is just a hint for those who are looking for the compact car of their dreams.
