Air conditioning in the car has long been not a luxury, but an urgent need. In cold weather, it will warm the driver. In hot weather, it will lower the temperature in the cabin. But far from all domestic cars are equipped with air conditioners, and the VAZ 2114 is just one of them. Fortunately, the car owner can install the air conditioner themselves. Let's figure out how it's done.

What the air conditioner consists of

The device consists of several elements.

How car air conditioner works

Freon is the refrigerant in almost all modern air conditioners. The principle of operation of the air conditioner is to ensure the circulation of the refrigerant in a closed system. There is a heat exchanger inside the car. Freon, passing through its cells, takes away excess heat from this device.

At the same time, the air temperature in the cabin decreases (as does its humidity), and the liquid freon, leaving the heat exchanger, goes into a gaseous state and enters the blown radiator. Due to the pressure created by the compressor, freon is again fed through the piping system to the heat exchanger, where it heats up again, taking heat and moisture from the passenger compartment.

Is it possible to install an air conditioner?

When installing these devices, the driver will not need to make any significant changes to the design of the machine. Air is supplied to the cabin through standard ventilation openings. Installing air conditioners from other cars is extremely rare, since they cause a lot of problems. In particular, the piping system in such an air conditioner may be either too short or too long. Therefore, it will have to either build up something or cut it off.

The mounting and sealing system of the "non-native" air conditioner will also have to be seriously modified, and it is far from certain that the refinement will be successful and the resulting system will retain its tightness. The dashboard will probably have to cut new vents, which will inevitably raise questions when passing the next inspection. All these points make the installation of air conditioners from other cars impractical, especially if there are ready-made solutions in stores specifically for the VAZ 2114.

Installation and connection of the air conditioner

Installation of an air conditioner on a VAZ 2114 consists of several stages, since important components of the device will have to be installed separately and then connected. Installation will require the following:

• new air conditioner with all accessories;
• set of open-end wrenches;
• flat-blade screwdriver.

Sequence of work

We list the main stages of installing an air conditioner. Work always begins with the installation of the evaporator.

1. The seal located on the hood of the car is removed.
2. On the right side of the engine compartment is a small plastic tray. It is removed by hand.
3. The filter is removed from the heater. You can remove it along with the plastic case in which it is located. The body is attached to the latches, which can be bent with a conventional screwdriver.

4. Ready-made air conditioners are always equipped with a tube of special sealant (gerlen), to which instructions are attached. The composition should be applied in a thin layer on all surfaces indicated in the manual.
5. The lower half of the evaporator is being installed. It is screwed to the lugs with bolts that come with the compressor. Then the upper half of the device is screwed onto it.

Next is the wiring.

1. The air filter is removed from the car.
2. The adsorber is removed.

4. All seals are removed from the device responsible for adjusting the headlights.
5. The positive wire from the air conditioner is laid next to the standard wiring harness (for convenience, you can fasten it to the harness with electrical tape).

6. Now the wires are connected to the sensor and to the air conditioner fan (they come with the device).
7. Next, a wire with an activation button is connected to the air conditioner. Then it should be pushed through the hole in the headlight corrector.
8. After that, the button is installed on the dashboard (a place for such buttons in the VAZ 2114 is already provided).

9. There are two wires on the stove switch: gray and orange. They need to be connected. After that, the temperature sensor from the air conditioner kit is installed.

10. Next, the thermostat is installed (in the engine compartment it can be placed in any convenient place).
11. The temperature sensor is connected to the thermostat (the wire for this is included with the compressor).

Now the receiver is mounted.

1. Any free space to the right of the engine is selected in the engine compartment.
2. Several holes are drilled in the wall of the compartment for mounting the bracket, then it is screwed to the wall with ordinary self-tapping screws.

A capacitor is installed after the receiver.

1. The car horn is disconnected and moved to the side, closer to the temperature sensor, and temporarily fixed in this position. To do this, you can use electrical tape or a special plastic clip.
2. The compressor is connected to the condenser by a tube, after which it is fixed with fixing bolts.

And finally, the compressor is mounted.

1. The right boot is removed.
2. The generator is dismantled, and then its mounting bracket.
3. All wires are removed from the right headlight.
4. In place of the removed bracket, a new one is installed from the compressor kit.
5. The compressor is mounted on a bracket, then all the necessary pipes are connected to it.

General rules for connecting an air conditioner

The scheme for connecting the air conditioner to the on-board network may vary depending on the selected device model, so it is not possible to write out a single "recipe" for connection. You will have to clarify the details in the instructions for the device. Nevertheless, there are several rules that are common to all air conditioners.

1. The evaporation unit is always connected first. Power is supplied to it either from the cigarette lighter or from the ignition unit.
2. There must be a fuse in the above section of the circuit (and in the case of August air conditioners, a relay is also installed there, which is included in the device kit).
3. The "mass" of the air conditioner is always connected directly to the car body.
4. Next, a capacitor is connected to the network. A fuse is also required in this area.
5. After that, the condenser and evaporator are connected to a button mounted on the dashboard. By clicking on it, the driver should hear the noise of the fans in the evaporator and condenser. If the fans work, the circuit is assembled correctly.

About charging the air conditioner

After installation, the air conditioner must be charged. In addition, this device will have to be refueled at least once every 3 years, since up to 10% of freon can leave the system during the year, even if the circuit has never been depressurized. Freon R-134a is now used everywhere as a refrigerant.

Most air conditioners now use R-134a freon.

And to pump it into the air conditioner, you will need special equipment, for which you will have to go to the parts store.

For refueling air conditioners, special cylinders with pressure gauges are used.

And you need to buy the following:

• set of couplings and adapters;
• hose set;
• freon cylinder R-134a;
• pressure gauge.

Filling sequence

1. There is a plastic cap on the low pressure line in the air conditioner. It is carefully cleaned of dust and opens.
2. The fitting located under the cap is connected to the hose on the cylinder using an adapter from the kit.
3. The car engine starts and idles. The speed of rotation of the crankshaft should not exceed 1400 rpm.
4. The air conditioner turns on the maximum air circulation in the cabin.
5. The freon cylinder is turned upside down, the valve on the low pressure adapter slowly opens.
6. The filling process is constantly monitored by a manometer.
7. When cold air begins to enter the car interior, and the hose near the adapter begins to be covered with frost, the refueling procedure ends.

About installing climate control

In short, the installation of climate control on the VAZ 2114 is the lot of enthusiasts. Ordinary owners of the "fourteenth" models rarely do such things, limiting themselves to a simple air conditioner, the installation sequence of which is given above. The reason is simple: putting climate control on a far from the newest car is not economically feasible.

To do this, you will need to purchase electronic control units for the heating system. One or two (depending on how many control zones are planned to be installed). Then they will need to be connected to the on-board network, for which serious changes will need to be made to it. This task is not for every driver. Therefore, you will need a specialist whose services are very expensive. With all this in mind, the owner of the VAZ 2114 should think: does he really need climate control?
