Air conditioning in the car. What mistakes do drivers make?

Air conditioning in the car. What mistakes do drivers make? High summer temperatures make driving tiresome and therefore dangerous. Open windows and a hatch supporting air exchange are not always enough.

Experts in safe driving have no doubt - high temperatures have a negative impact not only on the car, but also on the driver. Studies have shown that if the temperature inside the car is 27 degrees Celsius, compared to a temperature lower than 6 degrees, the reaction speed of the driver deteriorates by more than 20 percent.

Tests by French scientists have confirmed the link between high temperatures and an increase in the number of accidents. It is from the heat that we sleep worse, and a tired driver is a threat on the road. Statistics say that about 15 percent of serious accidents are due to driver fatigue.

The interior of a parked car can reach extreme temperatures in a very short time. For example, when outdoor thermometers show 30-35 degrees Celsius, the interior of a car in the sun heats up to about 20 degrees Celsius in just 50 minutes, and to 20 degrees Celsius after another 60 minutes.

- First of all, it is worth remembering that the air conditioner is not able to instantly cool the car interior heated in the sun. Before you get into the car, you should first take care of the air exchange. To do this, simply open all doors or windows, if possible. The air conditioning system cools the cabin much more efficiently and effectively, the temperature of which is close to the ambient temperature. In the first few hundred meters, you can open the windows slightly to improve the air exchange even more,” explains Kamil Klechevski, director of sales and marketing at Webasto Petemar.

The optimal, comfortable temperature in the passenger compartment, of course, largely depends on the preferences of passengers, but it should not be too low. It is assumed that it should be in the region of 19-23 degrees Celsius. If you go out frequently, make sure the difference is around 10 degrees Celsius. This will prevent heat stroke.

One common mistake is to install vents directly on the head, which can lead to a quick cold, and in extreme cases, ear infections or sinus problems. It will be more efficient and safer to direct cool air towards the glass and legs.

– Air conditioning in most cars works all year round. It not only cools the interior, but also prevents the windows from fogging up, for example, during rain, drying the air. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the technical condition of this piece of vehicle equipment by conducting periodic checks, explains Kamil Klechevski from Webasto Petemar.

The cabin filter should be checked and replaced at least once a year. It determines what kind of air passengers breathe when traveling in a car. The condition of the air conditioning system must not be neglected. In dark and damp places, fungi and bacteria multiply extremely quickly, and after turning on the deflectors, they enter directly into the car interior.

Disinfection of the system should be carried out at least once a year, it is also worth checking the tightness of the entire system and replacing or topping up the coolant.
