Cosmetics without waste

Skin care in an ecological style, from a fashion trend to everyday. Increasingly, we choose cosmetics, guided by the principles of zero waste, which means zero waste. We pay attention to the composition, packaging of creams and look for eco-certificates. If you think it's complicated, read our easy guide to waste-free skin care.

Have you noticed how cotton buds have changed? These small accessories make up as much as 70 percent. all waste that ends up in rivers, seas and oceans. The problem is so urgent that the European Commission took it up and now plastic cotton buds are completely banned from production. Simply put, plastic has turned into cardboard. Good, because imagine that every minute the contents of one garbage truck full of plastic waste ends up in the oceans. Yet the bottle takes 450 years to disappear from the depths of the water. And that's just the tip of the garbage mountain. But instead of idly despairing about the fate of the Earth, let's focus on how our daily beauty choices can help save the environment.

How to get closer to the ideal of zero waste?

The basic principles of waste-free care come down to a few of the most important slogans.

  • First: refuse.

Which? Plastic and non-recyclable packaging. Finally, give up on yourself. First of all, an excess of products that quickly deteriorate. The point is to use creams, masks and other cosmetics to the very end. Then the packaging can be disposed of with a clear conscience in glass or paper containers.

How about plastic? It is better to avoid it like fire, and if this is not possible, switch to less waste, i.e. instead of buying a new bottle of liquid soap, fill it up again! There are already companies that offer a service to fill bottles with shower gel or sell special fillers with a very large capacity, such as Yope's Verbena liquid soap.

  • Second: reuse.

If you have a large family, try to find one natural bath and shower cleanser for everyone. For example, the Polish company Biały Jeleń has a delicate formula suitable for all skin types, and a refill container of hypoallergenic liquid soap has as much as 5000 ml! And here's another zero waste rule: reuse. In this case, the soap canister can be used as a watering can. On the other hand, used packaging that can be recycled, such as glass jars or paper packaging, should be disposed of in the appropriate waste bins. Unfortunately, the days of returning the packaging to collection points, changing milk bottles and the famous sparkling Mazovian in a large green bottle are a thing of the past.

  • Third: break with plastic.

So, if you have a choice, choose glass, if not, try to keep your use of plastic to a minimum. At Iossi, you'll find a large selection of organic and natural beauty formulas in glass, such as Naffi's moisturizer.

In the case of shampoos and hair conditioners, environmentalists advise switching to cosmetics in cubes. They do not require any packaging, and the natural composition will take care of your hair and will not negatively affect what ends up in the sewers and, therefore, in the seas and oceans. At Cztery Szpaki you will find a large selection of hair balms, such as the universal shampoo bar.

And if you really care about the fate of the Earth, choose cosmetics packaged in a jar, paper bag or box. There are even companies that make cosmetic bottles out of ocean-caught plastic!

  • Fourth: ecological substitutes.

Instead of buying another plastic or worse pet sponge, test out an eco-friendly replacement. The most pleasant to use washcloths are made from plants: konjac or loofah. They are persistent and pleasant for the body, and additionally have an exfoliating effect, so you do not need to use additional body cosmetics - peeling. A good sponge, for example, from Eco Cosmetics.

cosmetic processing

Cosmetic packaging, whether glass or paper, can be recycled. Provided they are empty. Just remove the plastic cover and you're done. What to do with the remnants of expired cosmetics? Don't pour it down the sink! Instead, think about what you can do with them. Shower gel can be used in place of liquid cleanser, body cream, use it on the legs, similar to a serum or face mask. On the feet, the epidermis is thicker and usually lacks moisture, so he will gladly accept another portion of cosmetics.

Also, if you're wondering what to do with makeup leftovers and how to give them a second life, check out these five makeup recycling options:

  1. Grate a bar of soap and use it to wash clothes;
  2. The rest of the lip balm can be used to care for the cuticles around the nails;
  3. Instead of hand soap, shampoo that you are tired of will do;
  4. Dry ink? Immerse the bag in warm water for a few minutes and then use the ink completely;
  5. Hair conditioner will also soften body hair, so it can be used in place of shaving gel.

Environmental make-up

Mineral powders and foundations, glitter-free eyeshadows, metallic or paper packaging are all signs that waste-free makeup is slowly gaining ground. Ecological powders, shadows and tonal foundations contain only four natural ingredients. These are: mica, iron oxides, zinc and titanium dioxide, in other words, finely divided minerals. Their advantage is that they do not irritate even very sensitive skin. Plus, they have a long shelf life so you have plenty of time to use them. You can find many of these formulas at Annabelle Minerals, LORIGINE Minerals and Uoga Uoga.

And if you want to take off your makeup in an eco-friendly way, ditch wet wipes and disposable tampons (most have artificial fibers added) in favor of a plant-based cognac sponge or reusable tampons that you can rinse or throw in the washing machine. after removing makeup.

On the other hand, if you're looking for ways to recycle makeup that doesn't suit you anymore, start mixing. Here's what you can combine: foundation with concealer, face fluid with concealer, powder with bronzer, and eye shadow with highlighter. The effects can be amazing.
