Euro NCAP crash tests

The club of cars with the highest five-star rating has grown again.

For us, the buyers, it is good that the manufacturers are very prestigious about the results of the Euro NCAP tests. As a result, safer cars roll off the assembly line. And at the same time, not only large limousines, vans or SUVs deserve the title of safe. Cars such as the Citroen C3 Pluriel, Ford Fusion, Peugeot 307 CC and Volkswagen Touran performed very well. Just wait for the first city car to get the maximum score. Maybe at the next Euro NCAP test?

Renault Laguna *****

Frontal collision 94%

Side kick 100%

Frontal airbags have two filling levels, they protect passengers very well. There is also no risk of injury to the knees of the driver or passenger. As a result of the collision, the driver's legroom was slightly reduced.

Journey ***

Frontal collision 38%

Side kick 78%

Trajet was developed in the mid-90s and, unfortunately, this is immediately evident from the test results. The driver and passenger are at risk of injury to the chest, as well as legs and knees. The result was only enough for three stars.

SMALL CARS

Citroen C3 Pluriel ****

Frontal collision 81%

Side kick 94%

Despite the fact that the Citroen C3 Pluriel is a small car, it has achieved an excellent result, even better than its rigid-body progenitor. The frontal impact was carried out without cross bars on the roof for a more reliable result. Nevertheless, the result is enviable.

Toyota Avensis *****

Frontal collision 88%

Side kick 100%

The Avensis body is very stable, the car showed excellent results in a side impact. The driver's knee airbag, used as standard for the first time, has passed the tests to a minimum, minimizing the risk of injury.

Kia Carnival / Sedona **

Frontal collision 25%

Side kick 78%

The worst result in the last test - only two stars, despite the large dimensions. The interior of the car in a frontal collision was not too hard, the driver hitting his head and chest on the steering wheel in the frontal collision test.

Nissan Mikra ****

Frontal collision 56%

Side kick 83%

A similar result, as in the case of the Citroen C3, the body protects well from injury, an alarmingly high load on the chest of the driver in a frontal collision is noted. The seatbelt pretensioner was not working properly.

HIGH-END CARS

Opel Signum ****

Frontal collision 69%

Side kick 94%

The dual-stage front airbags did their job well, but the driver's chest was heavily stressed. There is also a risk of injury to the knees and legs of the driver and passenger.

Renault Space *****

Frontal collision 94%

Side kick 100%

The Espace became the second van after the Peugeot 807 to receive top marks in Euro NCAP. Moreover, at the moment it is the safest car in the world, of course, among those tested by Euro NCAP. It was joined by other Renault cars - Laguna, Megane and Vel Satisa.

Reno Tvingo ***

Frontal collision 50%

Side kick 83%

After the test results, it is clear that Twingo is already outdated. A particularly high risk of injury is associated with the limited space for the driver's legs, and they can be injured by the clutch pedal. Hard parts of the dashboard are also a threat.

Saab 9-5 *****

Frontal collision 81%

Side kick 100%

Since June 2003, the Saab 9-5 has been equipped with an intelligent seat belt reminder for the driver and front passenger. The body of the Saab provides very good protection during the side impact test - the car received the highest rating.

SUVs

BMW H5 *****

Frontal collision 81%

Side kick 100%

There was too much force on the driver's chest, and there is also a risk of injury to the legs on the hard parts of the dashboard. The BMW failed in the pedestrian crash test, earning only one star.

COMPACT CARS

Peugeot 307 SS ****

Frontal collision 81%

Side kick 83%

As with the Citroen, the Peugeot was also subjected to a head-on crash test with the roof retracted. However, he got a very good result. The only reservations that the testers had were related to the hard elements of the dashboard, which could injure the driver's legs.

MINIVES

Ford Fusion ****

Frontal collision 69%

Side kick 72%

The Fusion's cabin held up well in both tests, with only a head-on collision causing slight deformation of the cabin. Too much force acted on the chest of the driver and passenger.

Volvo XC90 *****

Frontal collision 88%

Side kick 100%

Front-seat passengers are subjected to somewhat excessive chest stress, but this is actually the only complaint about the big Volvo SUV. Great side kick.

MIDDLE CLASS CARS

Honda Accord****

Frontal collision 63%

Side kick 94%

The driver's airbag is single-stage, but protects well from injuries. There is a risk of injury to the legs from the dashboard, it is worth emphasizing that the three-point seat belt is also used for the passenger sitting in the center of the rear seat.

Volkswagen Turan ****

Frontal collision 81%

Side kick 100%

The Touran was the second car to receive three stars in the pedestrian crash test. Frontal and side impact tests showed that the bodywork was very stable and the Volkswagen minivan was close to a five-star rating.

Kia Sorento ****

Frontal collision 56%

Side kick 89%

Kia Sorento tests were carried out a year ago, the manufacturer has improved the protection of the knees of front seat passengers. It was enough to get four stars, but the shortcomings remained. Very bad result when hitting a pedestrian.
