Short test: Hyundai ix35 2.0 CRDi HP Premium

Such a label is used by a rival Ford brand, but if we look at how they have approached the design of cars with this biggest Korean brand lately, it seems that Ford is in some ways also a good example for them. In the end, this is also true of the ix35, which from almost every angle appears to be a direct cousin of the Ford Plague.

Otherwise appearance We pay more attention to the ix35, we notice a lot of differences compared to the Kuga, but basically they seem to be very similar. And there is nothing wrong with either Ford or Hyundai. Of course, the Kuga and the ix35 are "soft" SUVs, as some like to call slightly smaller, more dynamically designed vans designed for paved roads and mounted high above the ground. When I add a competitor, Kugo, to this record, I run out of memory six months ago when we tested the most equipped and motorized version of this model. A powerful turbodiesel engine and almost complete equipment, even with an automatic transmission, are common features of both.

Hyundai slightly outperformed Ford in at least three of the most notable ways: with an engine that has 15 kilowatts more power, with a gearbox that looks more convincing (although the Koreans usually have an “automatic” and Ford uses a dual-plate clutch). technological solution) and with a tinted glass roof, which is also movable. Together, we're also deducting slightly less money for the Hyundai, which is probably mostly due to the individual accessories in the Kuga.

We could be completely satisfied with the ix35 if the aesthetic well-being when we sat in it were only marginally affected by the accessories. The reddish brown leather that covered the seats is clear from another story ... But the ix35 is convincing in all other respects. Yes body appearance is attractiveand while the blinding white gives the car a beautiful look, it definitely isn't conducive to off-road driving. The same goes for big bikes with attractive wheel rim designs. The view from behind the steering wheel is equally convincing, the gauges and center console are crisp and adjusted so that every finger movement towards the steering wheel is obvious.

The spaciousness of the ix35 is good too, for a 4,4 meter car. Sitting behind the wheel makes it a little difficult too. leather baseas the grip (hips and back) is not as good as with textile covers. Winter problems are overcome by efficiently heating both front seats. Under the nearly 600-liter boot we find a real spare tire, which is the exception rather than the rule these days. The increase to over 1.400 liters seems to be sufficient for most common transport needs.

The XNUMX-liter turbodiesel is causing Hyundai executives to have a lot of gray hair. Not because of the quality, durability, good power and even more flexibility, but because the capacity of the Korean plant supplying these cars to the European plant in Nosovice in the Czech Republic is too small to meet the needs of all Hyundai customers!

The most powerful version that was installed in our test model with a modern six-speed automatic transmission, convinces primarily with its capabilities and flexibility... Therefore, the sound background of a running engine is not always convincing, at low revs it seems rather quiet, if the driver is impatient and wants to move faster, at high revs the engine runs quickly and too loudly. This can still be avoided in the case of a manual transmission (by shifting gears up early), but it is not possible to do this exercise automatically, although it adapts quite well to a different driving style electronically.

The automatic is also one that significantly spoils the otherwise pretty solid fuel economy of the very powerful turbodiesel. Special hashing (read: consumption reduction) from a button marked ECO should not be expected, but performance is significantly reduced.

Hyundaev four-wheel drive vehicle pretty simple. If necessary, it can be smoothly changed to a ratio of 50:50 on both driving pairs of wheels, two locks can also help. The first one is pluggable and “blocks” the equal distribution of power (half) on both pairs of wheels and is automatically switched off at higher speeds (than 38 km / h), the second one is automatic and is responsible for the transverse adjustment of the power transfer to the rear-wheel drive.

This time we will not deliberately get hung up on listing all the equipment that was with us in the tested Hyundai. This would be for a few paragraphs and almost perfect for normal needs. Anyone who decides to buy this semi-urban SUV will still have to seriously delve into the price list and equipment list of the ix35. Also because, as with Hyundai, the highest value car can be found for a little less than a euro, if there is less essential equipment on the list – we give up.
