Brief test: Kia Rio 1.4 CVVT EX Luxury

The Kia Rio is currently an established small family car that has built a reputation largely for its convincing looks and prices that are below the catalog or the official price with various discounts. This car we tested had two features: only one pair of doors on the sides and the equipment you can choose from in Rio de Janeiro, bearing the EX Luxury label.

Only in the case of engines could we have opted for something more, as the 1,4-liter petrol still has a more expensive thousand euro replacement, a turbodiesel with the same volume, slightly less power, but also with lower standard fuel consumption. But now that diesel is almost as expensive as gasoline, calculating when a diesel investment will pay off is very different from what it was a while ago. For those who will be driving less with the Rio, say, up to 15.000 kilometers per year, it is definitely worth calculating the estimated cost.

However, he may also have such an unknown account. Normal fuel consumption is one thing, but the real one is quite another. It was also the most important experience of the tried and tested Rio. Only with really moderate gas pressure and constant consideration of quick upshifts did the average consumption even come close to the consumption of 5,5 liters from the technical data (ours then were oriented at an average of 7,9 liters). However, if you tried to use even a small part of the engine's power, which is also available at higher speeds, the average stabilized at ten. Such differences are unpleasant, but real.

Otherwise, we were quite happy with Rio. As well as the exterior, the interior pleases too. Praise to the front seats. Due to the wheels (tire size 205/45 R 17), the driver would expect a sportier attitude towards the car, but the chassis and tires are strongly opposed and everything is rather unpolished. I recommend choosing another combination, with 15 or 16 inch wheels!

The Kia Rio is a good car, but EX Luxury is exaggerating a bit in the wrong direction.
