Short test: Peugeot 208 1.2 VTi Allure

The new Peugeot 208 is a good eight centimeters smaller than its predecessor. The entry-level models are also equipped with less powerful engines, as Dvestoosmica offers the three-cylinder gasoline engine we know from the lesser Stosedmica, but all this does not mean that Peugeot has taken a step back in its offering.

In the field of design, they took a different approach. Aggressive touches are replaced by elegance, and sharp edges are replaced by elegant finishes with chrome trims. At first glance, the 208th is already a narrower car, although the numbers do not show this.

Inside, the car is several classes better than its predecessor. Even after the smell, you can understand that there are materials of higher quality in it. First of all, beautiful, calm color combinations and beautifully rounded fittings are striking, as well as much less intrusive switches, since many of them "disappeared" on the seven-inch screen in the middle of the case.

We have already heard a lot of controversy about the position of the driver-voter on the circle. A small steering wheel that extends far towards the driver and is quite low is here so that we can now look at the counters through the steering wheel. It is clear that sooner or later everyone will get used to this position. For men, this is probably a little more difficult, as the small and squeezed pedals combined with the very small steering wheel make it feel like this is a slot machine position.

In general, there is much more space inside than in its predecessor. Even sitting in the back is quite comfortable, there is enough knee room. Since the subject did not have a large dormer this time (unlike the “Two hundred and eighth” in the first test), there was much more headroom.

Thanks to the slimming drug (the car is lighter than its predecessor by more than 120 kg), the 1,2-liter engine makes everyday movements a little easier. The only drawback of this car is the first 1.500 rpm above idle, when the car is almost unresponsive. Then he wakes up and serves his purpose like a diligent ant. Sure, it doesn't have a racing purpose, but when paired with a well-timed five-speed manual transmission, it handles most needs fairly reliably. On the highway, where the revs are quite high, there may be some noise, as well as consumption higher than desired. At 130 km / h and 3.500 rpm, it is about seven liters.

Losing weight also has a positive effect on other aspects of driving. It can be quite enjoyable in urban labyrinths, but when the small steering wheel seduces us with racing sensations, the Dvestoosmica responds well in dynamic driving mode, and the precision of the steering system quickly prepares you for tight cornering on sidewalks.

Peugeot is committed to new principles with the Two Hundred and Eight. Obviously, many women participated in the development, since everything inside is neatly cleaned and arranged, and they also adjusted their position behind the wheel in their own way. The boys, however, made sure the car ran well.

evaluation

  • Pleasant appearance and especially appearance are the hallmarks of this car. Considering that the predecessor was bought mainly by women, a little "femininity" did not hurt him at all.
