Short test: Citroën C4 Aircross 1.6i Exclusive

Don't attack me too hard, it's just a convenient comparison with cocaine. But I can understand if you don't like a completely artificially sweetened American drink and find a slice of lemon even for an outsider who doesn't belong there. True fans claim that if the famous manufacturer wanted their most famous drink to taste like lemon, they would have already added it themselves and would not allow bartenders or waitresses to do it.

And, hand on heart, they are right in principle. There is only one original and in our case it is Coca-Cola, and in Citröen C4 Aircross it is Mitsubishi ASX. But like the slice of lemon in the most famous bubble drink, the C4 Aircross also represents an added value. Whether it's a prettier design, a more well-known brand in Europe, or a bigger discount or a lower retail price, it doesn't matter at the moment. Citroën's response to a business partnership with a renowned automotive diamond is a complete success.

Given its distinctive appearance, it could easily have been a DS4 Aircross. The C4 Aircross is enjoyable even as a test car with dynamically designed headlights, LED daytime running lights and tinted black rear windows that further accentuate the whiteness of the body. There's also a nice addition to the C-pillar, where there's also a sky-side windmill next to the Aircross sign. It's nothing, a car that catches your eye.

There was also something to see inside. Leather, touchscreen with navigation and speakerphone, cruise control, 440-channel automatic air conditioning and a bunch of airbags including seven curtains and driver's knee protectors create a sense of safety and prestige. A taller driving position and a smart key that remotely controls the door and ignition switch further enhance this sense of superiority. The passenger compartment has ample room for five adults, and the XNUMX-liter boot is one of the largest in the class.

In the test, we had a version that was the only one with a gasoline engine among the weaker ones. A simple 1,6-liter naturally aspirated engine with just 86 kilowatts (117 "horsepower"), a five-speed manual transmission and only front-wheel drive hits the bottom of the offer, as only the more expensive turbo diesels follow. So don't be surprised if there is too much noise on the highway and if the front wheels, combined with winter tires and slippery roads, are not the perfect example of traction. But if you consider that this is why the car is no longer so expensive (and not cheap, we will agree!), Some will turn a blind eye to the fuel consumption, which in our test was 9,6 liters. True, we did not act very carefully with the C4 Aircross, but the larger frontal area, more weight and winter conditions, together with the stiffer tires, have their business. We indicated that there are more options for turbodiesels ...

Lemon can really stretch the face of the sensitive in a grimace, which means it enhances the taste of Coca-Cola. And the C4 Aircross, while an updated version of the original, is unique enough that we don't blame its brother. On the contrary: it's good that they have so much in common in technology!
