Short test: Ford Turneo Custom L2 H1 2.2 TDCi (114 kW) Limited

Ford is not only an expert on sports models (think Fiesta ST and Focus ST and RS), but is also known for its pleasure to drive full production models (the previously mentioned Fiesta, Focus, as well as the series from the Max family, Galaxy, Mondeo and of course Kuga) . But the fact that these feelings can move to the first floor is already a phenomenon.

Interestingly, the Ford Tourneo Custom is much easier to drive than you might think at first glance. He, of course, climbs into the cab, but does not lie down, and then the driver is greeted by a workplace that can easily be attributed to a passenger car. What's more, Ford's designers have gone so far as to make it even tighter behind the wheel, despite its impressive exterior dimensions! Maybe the architecture is to blame, with everything at hand for the driver, or the setting of the gear lever that pushes the average passenger to their knees in the first place.

In the second and third rows, it is completely different. The seats are leather and comfortable, transitioning between them is effortless, and as befits a semi-supplier, the seats can be stored at will, luggage being preferred. And there can be many of them, in our case, there was easily a place for the second type for four bicycles. The only downsides to this car are the Isofix mounts, as there are only three seats (out of eight options!), and the rear end heating and cooling or ventilation system. The switches are placed close to the rear passengers (over the heads of those in the second row), but the drivers are quite far away, as there is no control from the dashboard. And you can believe that with such a volume, every opportunity should be used, because such a large space is not easy to heat or cool, so a more sensitive driver will freeze or “cook” while driving alone if he does not. stretch and adjust rear ventilation.

If the power steering were a little more direct (because of the greater mass of the power steering, it rolls up its sleeves better than in a car), you could easily attribute a sporty character to it. And this despite the fact that the Tourneo Custom is not unnecessarily spring-loaded, but just a comfortable family companion. The driver will appreciate the rich standard equipment (ESP, air conditioning, cruise control, Start & Stop system, radio with CD player, four airbags and curtain airbags), and at the same time, we will praise the additional equipment, especially the electrically adjustable. The driver's seat is upholstered in the aforementioned leather. There is really a lot of storage space that is tucked away altogether.

If you want to travel economically, with a consumption of about eight liters, you will travel only 110 km / h. The speed limiter no longer supports the ECO program, so you will have to turn off this program every time you want to merge with traffic on the highway. The ride is really tireless, almost like in a passenger car; you just have to be careful at junctions to make the sharp turn a little more "wide" and that's it. Personally, I'd like second gear to be a bit "longer" to engage right after launch, so you need to use the full range of first gear, which also means a bit more noise. Otherwise, a great price for the powertrain and the 2,2-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers a burst of 155 horsepower and averages just 10,6 liters per 100 kilometers in our test.

Perhaps with the best Limited equipment, we could expect electric sliding side doors, but honestly, we didn't miss them. Few competitors should have it, the Ford Tourneo Custom has many advantages that other giants can only dream of.

evaluation

  • You don't have to have six children, a wife and a mistress to think about such a vehicle. You will never travel together anyway, will you? It is enough to live actively (read: sports) or spend an hour with a lot of friends. Then, of course, we will immediately offer to organize transport.
