Short test: Hyundai i20 1.1 CRDi Dynamic

First of all, it's worth mentioning that Hyundai has redesigned the small i20 for the second time. The increasingly frequent appearance of exterior updates in the form of LED daytime running lights could not do without the new version of the i20. The front grille is also slightly brighter and is no longer that monotonous "unsmiling". The back has obviously run out of inspiration as it is more or less the same.

Well, what we were most interested in about the test unit was the engine. Hyundai has finally offered a sensible entry-level engine for anyone looking to have a diesel engine in a car like this. Scrolling through the price list with our finger, we quickly see that the € 2.000 difference between petrol and diesel is much more reasonable than before, when only the more expensive 1,4-liter turbodiesel was available. As already stated, the three-cylinder engine with over one liter “die” displacement was tasked with satisfying those customers looking for an economical and reliable engine, not performance.

However, we were all pleasantly surprised by the responsiveness of the small engine. The machine moves fifty-five very lively kilowatts with ease. Due to the abundance of torque, it is very rare for you to get into the area where you have to deal with downshifts. Credit goes to the well-sized six-speed gearbox: don't expect to feel the force of acceleration in your back in sixth gear. After reaching top speed in fifth gear, sixth gear only serves to reduce engine speed.

The renovation has also resulted in a significant improvement in the quality of life in the interior. The materials are better, the dashboard has acquired a finished look. Convenient switches that can be operated by anyone who gets into such a car for the first time are the essence of interior design in this class of car. While the trend of rejuvenating the exterior of cars is LED lights, we will say that there is a USB plug inside it. Of course, Hyundai has not forgotten about this. At the top of the "fittings" there is a small screen with data from the car radio and on-board computer. The main functions of the radio can be controlled using the buttons on the steering wheel, and the button on the dashboard is used for driving (one way) on the trip computer.

Needless to say, there is a lot of space inside. Due to the slightly shorter longitudinal spacing of the front seats, the rear seats will be happier. Parents who install ISOFIX child seats will be a little less pleased as the anchorages are well hidden in the back of the seats. Three hundred liters of luggage is a figure that is in every Hyundai dealer's repertoire when it comes to praising this car to the buyer. If the edge of the barrel were a little lower and therefore the bore was a little larger, we would also give it a clean five.

We are now very familiar with the Hyundai i20 in two generations. On the other hand, they also paid attention to the market response and have been improving it so far. Finally, there was a loud call for a cheaper diesel engine.
