Brief Test – Nissan X-Trail 1.6 dCi 360° 4WD

Today, SUVs or crossovers are not real SUVs at all. That's right, they look good, they're roomy, a bit taller than other passenger cars, and above all, they're practical. In fact, few offer all-wheel drive, which is one of the key conditions for overcoming off-road.

The Nissan X-Trail has it, or maybe if you choose it, since it's available as an option. Here a small dilemma arises whether to go off-road on such a sedan, because in terms of design, shape and especially the distance from the ground of 21 centimeters, overcoming off-road with 19 tires is not an exaggeration. inch wheels.

This X-Trail falls more into the category of cars that act like valerian drops when forecasters announce half a meter of fresh snow to fall the night before leaving for a family winter vacation or a longer business trip via Karavanke. Because the rotary knob, which allows the choice of front or rear wheel drive while driving, works well in these conditions. While it doesn't look like a chubby SUV and does not hide its kinship with the Qashqai and Muran, it also climbs surprisingly on muddy slopes. Then you have two options: Either go uphill very slowly and help yourself with traction at times, or let the engine climb the slope with power rather than more torque in a few starts. But since this is the exception rather than the rule, it is also important to drive well on the road.

With 130 horsepower, the engine is not one of the most powerful on the market, but for everyday tasks or long journeys at a moderate pace, it convinces with its solid fuel consumption, which ranges from 6 to 7 liters per 100 kilometers. The car is large, and for these dimensions and weight, it is a very competitive expense. The size is also pleasing on the inside, especially on the back bench where three adults can ride comfortably. We did not find any prestige or excess inside, but we did find a long list of accessories, reliable ergonomics and assistive systems.

Security has been well taken care of, last but not least there are cameras that allow 360-degree surveillance of the surroundings. We expected a little more from the screen that displays this. Sometimes it is difficult to estimate how far the edge of the car is from an obstacle because of the not very resolvable picture, and at night the light from the screen dazzles and shows the surrounding environment even less accurately. Therefore, it takes a little getting used to and getting to know each other better before you can trust the system 100%. With all-wheel drive, the safety level of the X-Trail is at a high level.

final grade: Large family car with extra-large luggage compartment and ample space for all five passengers, capable of tackling even the most difficult terrain as long as the obstacles are not too high.
