Short test: Opel Crossland X 1.6 CDTI Ecotec Innovation

We know that not only in Slovenia, relationships and acquaintances are very important. Especially if you get along with the boss. After all, a boss or co-worker is not all that important; it is good to have an ally. The French PSA group and Opel are now working closely together and the Opel Crossland X is already a product of common knowledge. Forget the Meriva, here is the new Crossland X, a crossover that, according to customer wishes, promises better times than the minivan.

The Crossland is 4,21 meters long and seven centimeters shorter than the Meriva and therefore slightly taller. Forget all-wheel drive, they only offer front-wheel drive, which can be connected to a turbo diesel or turbo petrol engine. In the test, we had the most powerful 1,6-liter turbodiesel, which with 88 kilowatts or more of domestic 120 "horsepower" and a six-speed manual transmission provides low consumption: in our test, 6,1 liters, on a regular circle after restrictions and with a smooth ride of just 5,1 liters per 100 km. There is enough torque as long as you are awake at the wheel and do not forget to change gears when low revs do not provide enough acceleration. Due to the high height, the visibility from all sides is excellent, only the rear wiper, which wipes only a modest part of the rear window, is a little disturbed. Since the test car had full 17-inch aluminum rims (beauty aside, of course) the chassis is a little stiffer, so it's more suited to beautiful tarmac than gravel adventure. What about the interior?

There is room in the back only for children, as there are not enough inches to reach the knees. There will be no problems with headroom and trunk size as it is spacious enough thanks to a longitudinally movable rear bench that you can also afford to carry larger items. However, if we can compliment the driving position, it is not clear to us why they insist on a giant gear lever. This one is already large for a wide male palm, can you imagine a gentle woman shaking his hand? Well, the seats were sporty, with adjustable seats and heating, we were confused only by the wide side supports.

The test Crossland X was well equipped. Active headlights, head-up screen, blind spot warning, cruise control, mobile phone connectivity, heated sports steering wheel with heating, huge sunroof, lane warning, etc. she will be paid as much as 5.715 euros. Automatic switching between low and high beams costs every euro (€ 800 lighting package), although the system sometimes gets confused and the lane departure warning sound on the highway is so annoying that we turned it off several times. Highway? This is a separate story, it often comes in handy there.

We loved the infotainment content (IntelliLink and OnStar) as it works with both Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In particular, we draw attention to the myOpel app, which informs your car about the condition of the car such as tire pressure, average fuel consumption, odometer, range, etc. Useful.

The Opel Crossland X may not be your typical family car as it is too small, nor a real SUV as it does not offer all-wheel drive, so it is the right mix of Opel and PSA. You know, relationships and acquaintances will always come in handy.
