Short test: Opel Mokka 1.4 Turbo Ecotec Start & Stop 103 kW 4 × 4 Cosmo

Currently the most powerful gasoline engine with up to 103 kilowatts (or more than the domestic 140 "horsepower") Mokki fits more than you would say at first glance for a length of 4,28 meters (or short, depending on the size of your previous car ) and put the car a little higher. And if you add to this all-wheel drive and rich standard and optional equipment, then this Mokka is a real hit.

Of course, you need to take into account the increased fuel consumption. If you're in a hurry, it easily surpasses the magic ten-liter limit, and with a softer right leg, the trip computer will impress by requiring about seven liters per 100 kilometers. Too much?

Of course, although it has an alibi called four-wheel drive. Admittedly, this 65kg accessory basically only drives the front wheels, which should reduce fuel consumption, and only a very slippery floor activates the multi-plate electromagnetic clutch and therefore rolls up the rear wheel hubs. This is why the all-wheel-drive Mokka has front-wheel drive only, and only mud, snow or gravel activates the system, which provides a 50:50 torque split in the worst driving conditions.

Of course, the system is fully automatic as it continuously monitors the vehicle's rotation around vertical, lateral and longitudinal accelerations, steering wheel rotation, individual wheel speeds, accelerator pedal position, engine speed and torque. Given the fact that some of the big competitors don't offer a "four times four" disc at all, this is a big plus for some buyers who, say, have a weekend at the end of a gravel slope.

As we said in the introduction, the engine with an aluminum head, dual overhead camshafts (which take care of the 16-valve variable control) and a turbocharger is just plain slick as well as jittery. That's why a six-speed manual gearbox that sometimes loves to play with inaccuracies, 18-inch wheels (come standard on the Cosmo package) and a balanced chassis (single front suspension, rear axle shaft) provide an amazing amount. driving pleasure. While the standard equipment of the most equipped Cosmo package is already so rich, we also found the Cosmo package, electric and winter package in the test car. You do not understand?

For an additional three thousand, we also had an active AFL headlight system (good thing!), Rearview camera (recommended), Navi 600 radio, front and rear parking sensors, additional heated and movable rearview mirrors, high-voltage outlet in front of the rear row of seats, additional heated front seats and steering wheel and less spare tire. Thanks to all these add-on systems, the center console is filled with nearly opaque buttons that competitors have decided with a touchscreen, but that's sweet worries, isn't it?

Among the small crossovers that are now flooding the car markets, Opel is definitely not lagging behind, and in some respects even ahead. And with the new 1,4-liter turbocharged engine under the body (as opposed to the old 1,7-liter turbo diesel) and all-wheel drive, the technical excellence becomes even more evident.
