Short test: Opel Zafira 1.6 CDTI Innovation

In all honesty, remote assistance and assistance systems in the automotive world are not entirely revolutionary, but Opel has decided to completely improve the service and make it available to users completely free of charge for at least one year. The OnStar system offers a wide range of services and is not limited to telephone contact with an operator on the other side. Namely, an application that can be installed on a smartphone offers many other services, both informative and user-friendly. Drivers looking for data will be well equipped with all vehicle diagnostics (fuel condition, oil, tire pressure ...), the curious can see where the car is, and the most playful can remotely unlock, lock or even start the Zafira. It is clear that the most useful is the call of a Slovenian-speaking consultant who will try to help you in every possible way: he must send you emergency assistance, finding your chosen destination, ordering a service and urgently sending you to the scene. accident.

The last time the Zafira was refurbished was in the middle of last year, when it unified its design with the Astra. Modern LED headlights have also been dedicated to it, and the interior has been well redesigned with the latest Opel IntelliLink infotainment interface. As a result, the center of the dashboard has been cleaned, ergonomics have been improved and additional storage space has been added. The Zafira remains spacious and highly flexible: in addition to plenty of room for the driver and front passenger, there are three individual, longitudinally movable and folding seats in the second row. When not in use, there are two separate seats tucked away in the boot floor for greater durability in terms of ease of use. It is much better to use 710 liters of luggage, and when the second row of seats is folded down, this number rises to 1.860 liters.

The tested Zafira was equipped with a 1,6-liter turbodiesel with 136 "horsepower", which, given the size of the car, is not quite suitable for reasonable motorization. However, the engine is not bad: at lower revs it gives out a smaller turbo engine, later it pulls quite evenly. This allows a little more work with the gearbox, which is precise and undemanding to shift. The engine is also quiet and smooth, and with reasonably soft footing we can easily keep it flowing between six and seven liters per 100 kilometers.

Not only passengers, Zafira wants to please the drivers too. Opel also took a rather sporty approach to the chassis and steering mechanism. Given the size, it's surprising that the Zafira's dynamic ride is perfect. There is also a slight slope in the corners considering this is a family minivan.

The Innovation label stands for rich standard equipment (from LED headlights to radar cruise control and OnStar systems), and the most expensive option on the Zafira test list is the Park & Go package (€ 1.250), which brings parking sensors, a rearview camera and IntelliLink. All this is a little less than 30 thousand, this is a good price. This is also confirmed by statistics, as the Zafira is one of the best-selling members of its class.
