Kratki test: Renault Megane Coupe RS 2.0T 265 Red Bull Racing RB8

Over 57 seconds and 65 hundredths (just three laps, otherwise the profile of the winter tires would have disappeared) the Megane RS in the Red Bull Racing suit took the current 12th place in the overall standings and is convincingly the first among cars to wear winter tires. This version makes the company three more Megane RS, two of which are also benchmarks in individual categories (RS R26.R first among front wheel drive cars with semi-race tires and RS Trophy first among front wheel drive cars and summer tires.). Is it possible to speak even more clearly about the real champion, because there are four Megans RS in the first twelve?

The Red Bull RB8-attributed Renault Megane RS was, of course, created to celebrate the new design title in Formula 1. The particular navy blue body color and Red Bull Racing decals are something really special, although we can confidently confirm that Renault has taken only the best items from the accessory shelves and offers them in beautiful packaging. Therefore, for real Formula 1 fans, they might seem too bold, since Megan could devote more time and effort in honor of glorious victories and winning the title. Yes, we are talking about a more powerful engine, although 195 kilowatts and more domestic 265 "horses" can be too much for a brave young man in winter conditions.

Since it does not even have 200 kilowatts, some in the editorial office laughed, and I explained that the front drive wheels go empty to the top of the slope, regardless of the ground, when the stabilization system is turned off. The engine is really sharp, loves to run even at low revs and always makes the driver smile when the turbocharger breathes full lungs. It should be added that it might not be particularly impressive with a soundstage like the Volkswagen Golf GTI with a DSG dual-clutch transmission, nor does it offer a family van option like a Ford with a Focus ST, but you don't have to be a Renault fan to fall in love with. the technique of this compartment. As a classic coupe, of course, it also has all the disadvantages of a sports car, from the opacity to the large and heavy doors, from the hard-to-reach front passenger seat belts to the rear window, which is dirty all the time. at least in winter. Add to that the rigid chassis and Recaro-branded cage seats, and when you accidentally walk past the outer edge of the side reinforcement, someone will think the car is only for chubs (I mean crazy drivers). Error.

The Megane RS can also be a very enjoyable car for everyday driving. The central locking and start map have long been Renault's big asset, the reversing camera alleviates some of the aforementioned shortcomings, there's even an R-Link multimedia device with navigation (touchscreen!) and the Recar seats are the best you can expect in a sports car. And driving with smooth acceleration and the included ESC system is not at all tedious or hard work, as the Megane simply endures daily stresses gently.

It's tough, tough ... When you then grab the wheel, which has racing markings on top with white stitching, grab onto the aluminum gear lever of the six-speed manual gearbox and merge into the semi-race front seat with a bright red seat. belt, you are fast in the world of fast cars. Renault Sport Technologies knows what fast driving is and in this proposal I will completely forget about the latest Clio RS. They, too, are just people who make mistakes, although this mistake is probably just the leaders' desire for the world of the Republic of Slovenia to expand among a wider crowd. Most likely, these mistakes will not be repeated on the Megan RS, especially since rumors are already circulating on the sidelines that they are preparing Radical, that is, an even lighter and sharper version with a new (see News) image. Jupii!

The world of fast cars requires certain conditions, say, a sober head (and we're not talking about alcohol at all), experience and the realization that it's not a problem to drive fast, but to stop quickly. Brembo six-piston brake calipers painted toxic red help, as does the premium chassis, but I don't think they work miracles. When you turn on the Sport Mode program (which means ESC off, a straighter steering wheel, and a more responsive accelerator pedal), you'll know right away that you've awakened the devil in the 800-liter turbo. engine. Engine revs will immediately jump from 1.100 to 19 rpm at idle, and with bold acceleration, the front drive wheels clad in high-performance XNUMX-inch winter tires will want to dig a hole in the cold asphalt.

Thank goodness the Megane RS Red Bull RB8 has a mechanical partial differential lock, which with such a sparkling engine should honestly roll up its sleeves and get to work. You will then see a warning sign in front of the engine no-go zone indicating the ideal shift times and the fun can begin. In the hunt for record times, the standard RS Monitor system helps you to track lap times, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and measure acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h. Control precision to a new level. And with the classic handbrake added to that, a sporty day could be perfect. A little bit of innocent pobalinism never hurts.

Fuel consumption of 9 to 12,5 liters is of course expected in terms of power, but our standards prove that it can travel 100 kilometers even with 7,5 liters. Although the test Megane RS Red Bull RB8 was already pretty tired, because 24 thousand fast kilometers are comparable to at least 200 thousand ordinary ones, it left a very convincing impression. Please Renault, please don't let Renault Sport Technologies engineers make the successor more manual. How then should every driver in this car feel like a champion like Vettel?
