Grilles test: Toyota Corolla 1.4 D-4D LUNA TSS
If any car can be called like a gray mouse: unobtrusive and seemingly uninteresting, but it does most of the things right and provides passengers with great comfort, then this could certainly be the case with the Toyota Corolla.

The Corolla is Toyota's best-selling model and one of the best-selling cars overall. Of course, if we talk about world relations. The Corolla is present in as many as 150 car markets worldwide and has sold around 11 million vehicles across 44 generations so far, making it one of the most successful car models overall. More than 26 million Corolls are currently on the world's roads, according to Toyota.
The Corolla was recently available in several body styles, but after the appearance of the Auris and the independence of the Versa in the previous generation, it remained limited to the classic four-door sedan body. As a result, its reach in the European market, which is leaning more towards more practical body styles, has diminished slightly, but not in other more limousine-friendly markets such as Russia, where its success in Toyota's sales program can only compete. Land Cruiser.
The Corolla arrived a little refreshed last summer. On the outside, this is manifested mainly in a few additional chrome trims on the body, which are closer to new models, and LED daytime running lights, as well as under the sheet metal, especially in the larger range of safety accessories that Toyota combines in the TSS package (Toyota Safety Sense). The center display is larger than its predecessor, replacing the various switches on the dashboard, and also makes connection easier. However, it is clear that the designers did not anticipate the possibility of increasing the range of protective accessories, as their switches are located in a special order throughout the driver's workspace.
The interior is decorated in the same restraint as the exterior, which is not such a big drawback. The ride is reasonably comfortable due to the limousine's softer suspension, and the wheelbase, which is 10 centimeters longer than the Auris station wagon, also contributes to the spaciousness and comfort of passengers, especially in the back seat. The 452-litre trunk is also quite spacious, but since the Corolla is a classic sedan, its size is limited only by the 60:40 folding of the rear backrest.
The test Toyota Corolla was powered by a 1,4-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder that doesn't promise much on paper, but when combined with a well-thought-out six-speed transmission allows for a slightly more dynamic ride, otherwise it is entirely in keeping with the car's understated character. Fuel consumption is also solid.
Thus, Toyota Corolla is quite an exemplary car that diligently performs all tasks without attracting undue attention.

Toyota Corolla lives up to all the expectations of a classic sedan: it is rather discreet and indistinct, but at the same time comfortable, spacious, functional and well-equipped.
