Short test: Toyota Yaris 1.33 VVT-i Lounge (5 doors)

Style is a matter of personal decision, our way of life, thinking and, last but not least, everything we do. Some have it, others have it a little less, for some it means a lot, for others it means nothing.

But the Yaris in this fashionable disguise definitely reaches a pretty high level. No need to introduce baby Toyota, we've already been introduced to a fresh image that follows Toyota's design guidelines exactly, and we've already written a lot about it. Even the new Yaris will definitely not go unnoticed on the roads, as it quite boldly draws attention to itself with its image. In the Lounge version, he will pamper you with a large number of accessories, which are mainly based on the use of quality materials, playing with color combinations and a lot of fun electronics. The red thread is, of course, elegance. There are really a lot of them in this Yaris, even though it is a small city car.

The three-spoke leather steering wheel is adjustable in height and depth, the same leather is found on the gear lever and handbrake lever. In the interior, to add elegance, they have beautifully furnished the increasingly open upholstery with brown stitching, which somehow lends a vintage style or gives an impression of exclusivity. Leather, elegant seams and tasteful colors match perfectly with the silvery edges of the vents and satin chrome hooks. But the Yaris Lounge not only demonstrates its prestige, but as soon as you start the petrol engine at the touch of a button, an elegant multimedia display appears, showing all the information the driver and front passenger in the right seat need for a pleasant journey. ...

When reversing, the screen displays everything behind the car, so the length is just under four meters, and with the help of sensors and cameras, parking for children is possible. We also love the way the fuel consumption graph is displayed on the screen, so you can quickly identify where you have used more fuel than you should have. It has proven to be a useful tool for monitoring fuel consumption on this Yaris. Despite 99 horses, the engine does not provide the agility you might expect, and above all, it loses agility at over 120 kilometers per hour on the highway. For faster driving or overtaking, it needs to be accelerated a little in order to properly perform its task. Definitely not something you'd expect from a small car with a six-speed manual transmission.

The lack of responsiveness also shows up in city driving where the Yaris doesn't need to be pushed as hard to higher revs, it only works with the shift lever which is otherwise accurate, it's a little over when shifting from one gear to another. Considering the Yaris is a car designed primarily for city driving, the engine is quite decent, quiet or sound deadening even at higher speeds. Fuel consumption can also be lower. When driving fast on the highway and in a car full of passengers, it consumes up to 7,7 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers, and with moderate driving, the consumption is much lower and consumes 6,9 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers.

The base price for this discounted Yaris is a little less than 11 thousand, and for a car with such equipment, you will have to deduct a little more than 13 thousand. It's not exactly cheap, of course, but apart from what it offers, it's mostly about elegant looks and rich equipment, this price is not so overpriced anymore.

evaluation

  • I was impressed by the quality of workmanship and the appearance of the interior, in which the designers went on the right path, which makes the car interesting, modern and, above all, elegant. Something that is not a constant practice in this class. The engine has been tested and will do its job perfectly in the city and the suburbs. For motorways, we recommend diesels.

We praise and reproach

form

optional equipment

workmanship

high waist

limited flexibility of seat and steering wheel

we're missing out on more flexibility in sixth gear
