Short test: Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 TB Multiair 16V Distinctive

Men, of course, avoid the latter classification, but with some cars we still concede. There are not many such cars, but when we talk about Alfa Romeo cars, especially Giulietta, this word is nice to hear from both men and women. Be that as it may, here you need to bow to the Italians - they are not only top fashion designers, but also make beautiful cars. Therefore, the surprise is even greater when, looking at Juliet and her attractive form, we learn that she is already three years old. Yes, time flies quickly, and in order not to dim its brilliance, Alfi Giulietti dedicated a facelift.

But don't worry - even the Italians know that a winning horse doesn't change, so the Giulietta's shape hasn't changed much and they've only made a few cosmetic changes to it. The exterior is marked with a new mask, the headlights have a darker base and the fog lights have chrome surrounds. Buyers can choose from three new body colors, as well as a wider selection of aluminum wheels, available in sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches.

Italian designers haven't paid too much attention to the interior. The new Giulietti door trims blend in perfectly with the interior while emphasizing the quality of the products. Customers can choose between two new infotainment screens, five- and 6,5-inches, with improved Bluetooth, and a large-screen system that offers significantly updated and improved navigation with simple voice control.

Of course, there are also USB and AUX jacks (which are otherwise quite randomly placed at the bottom of the center console and without a drawer or storage space for the connected device), as well as an SD card slot. Well, the test Giulietta was equipped with a smaller screen, that is, a five-inch screen, and the entire infotainment system really works great. Connecting to a phone (bluetooth) is quick and easy, and for security reasons the system requires you to do this while standing and not while driving. But because tuning is very fast, you can easily do it while stopping at a red light. The radio and its screen are also commendable.

There are times when there are fewer and fewer buttons on cars as a whole, and therefore on radios, and those "on which" we store radio stations also disappear. Alfin's new infotainment system offers a range of selectors, including the All selector, which displays all stored radio stations in full screen. In this case, the screen remains in this position and does not return to the main one, as in many similar radio systems.

Otherwise, the driver and passengers of the Giulietta are doing well. The test car was rich in additional equipment (special alloy wheels, red brake calipers, black interior, Sport and Winter packages, as well as parking sensors at the front and rear), but it cost just over 3.000 euros. Even otherwise, when it comes to numbers, the final price of a car for what the buyer gets is very, very attractive. At least half the size of Juliet herself!

It was possible to doubt a little just by looking at the choice of engine. Yes, Alfas also succumbed to globalization - of course, in terms of engine size. Thus, the petrol 1,4-liter four-cylinder engine is sufficiently wound. Power and torque are not to blame, the other, of course, is fuel consumption. As is the case with most small displacement engines, acceptable mileage is only acceptable at very slow speeds, and more forceful throttle pressure is almost directly proportional to fuel consumption. Thus, the Juliet test was no exception; while the average test doesn't seem (too) high, the standard fuel consumption is disappointing when, in a really quiet ride, the engine "didn't want" to consume less than six liters per 100 kilometers. And this despite the Start / Stop system, which works quickly and flawlessly.

However, there is another system in the Giulietta that we can safely blame (not literally, of course!) For contributing to higher fuel consumption. The DNA system, a specialty of Alpha, which gives the driver the option of choosing support for electronic driving mode: D of course stands for dynamic, N is suitable for normal, and A for support in bad road conditions. The two quiet positions (N and A) will be omitted, but when the driver switches to position D, the speaker unintentionally becomes itself. Julitta jumps slightly (as if a crow was twitching before the jump) and lets the driver know that the devil got the joke.

In the D position, the engine does not like low revs, it is most pleased with the number above 3.000, and therefore the driver with it, since the Giulietta easily turns into a perfectly decent sports car. The car's position on the road is above average anyway (although the chassis is quite loud), 170 "horsepower" turns into racing crows, and if the driver does not give up, fun begins and fuel consumption increases dramatically. And, of course, this is not the fault of the DNA system, but the driver, as an excuse, can only be "accused" of inciting faster driving. Juliet's headlights cannot be ignored. Although Alpha claims that they have been refurbished (perhaps due to the dark background?), They are unfortunately not convincing. The brightness is nothing special, which of course interferes with faster driving, but they can't even look into the corner.

But these are little things, in addition, many people are engaged in them, and even more so the ladies will not do them. They will not race anyway, it is only important that they drive a good car. Rather, I say goodbye, beauty!

evaluation

  • Giulietta is another car that attracts buyers primarily with its design. While they may be happy because it's quite affordable compared to the competition, they have to rent a few small things. But when you are in love, even with a car, you are ready to forgive a lot.
