Short test; Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.6 Multijet II 16v TCT Super

White Alpha, 18-inch QV-style rims, red under the chin line, large chrome tailpipe. It's promising. Then the pretty sporty seats with red stitching, but the same stitching on the steering wheel, aluminum pedals and dual-clutch transmission. Even more promising. Juliet doesn't have a smart key, so you have to put it in the lock next to the steering wheel and ... Diesel.

Okay, don't panic, the Alfa's 175-horsepower diesel has proven its sportiness on several occasions. After all, this is the most powerful engine in the Giulietta, apart from the 240-horsepower turbocharged gasoline engine in the Veloce version.

However, during the first acceleration, it turned out to be a younger brother, a 1,6-liter diesel engine (check) for 120 "horsepower". Disappointment? The first point, of course, but this bike delivers more than the technical data on paper suggests. The fact that turbo diesels have a narrow usable rpm range, the dual-clutch transmission labeled TCT is easily hidden, and since the engine likes to push from lower rpms (so as not to go too low, again cares a lot about TCT), this Juliet is more alive than could be expected. Of course: it cannot accelerate in a sporty way around corners or at astronomical speed on the highway, but if the driver is experienced, he can be fast. The Veloce surcharge sports suspension is also to blame, which also comes with 18-inch wheels and tires.

Therefore, there are more vibrations in the cabin, but this Giulietta compensates for this by very high set slip limits, high enough that they are practically impossible to achieve "by accident". However, if the driver strives for it perfectly, this Giulietta can reward him with precise handling, ample feedback and an overall pleasant driving position. Yes, with a more powerful engine it would be even more fun, but the wallet would suffer more when buying. And the essence of such a Giuliette is to offer more entertainment for even more bearable money (and with a good set of built-in equipment for comfort and safety).
