Brief test: Citroën DS5 HDi 160 BVA Sport Chic

But after all, it is important that this awakens emotions, and the time is no longer so that one can insist on old values, at least not adapting them to modern trends. So the discussion about typical is very philosophical: typical of today or typical of old brand values?

The DS5 is typical of today's brand in many ways: a good design, an almost aggressive silhouette, a convincing nose and a sporty rear end, and above all, with a large and noticeable deviation from other design principles of the automotive industry. And this, perhaps, is even more noticeable in the interior (especially in the versions equipped in this way): recognizable style, a lot of black, durable leather, a lot of decorative "chrome" and, as a result, taking into account the above, a good sense of quality. and prestige.

He wants to be different! The small and fat steering wheel is quite short at the bottom (and therefore a little uncomfortable when turning quickly at a few turns), and is also fairly trimmed with chrome. Overhead are three windows, each with electric sliding shutters. The thing evokes a peculiar feeling. The rear window here is cross-sectioned and broken; the fact that the median is high is good, but a good view of what's going on behind does not affect this the best. The renowned Denon's audio setup leaves a great overall impression, only a slightly more "demanding" track like Tom Waits with his Shore Leave doesn't sound the best.

The DS5 is large and mostly long, which will quickly become apparent in small parking lots. However, this is a car in which it is pleasant to be both a passenger and a driver. It gets a little stuck only in the drawers (the booklet with instructions should be in the door), which is not enough and most of them are small, and in general only the one between the seats is useful. Otherwise, it boasts good ergonomics and a very good information system on as many as three screens and a projection screen for sensors.

This DS5 is equipped with the most powerful HDi available. Paired with an automatic transmission that's a good average (but not the latest scream of technology - it's fast on average and rarely squeaks quietly), it always delivers enough torque to make driving easy, enjoyable and stress-free. It can even consume relatively little: we read 4,5 liters per 100 kilometers per 50, 4,3 per 100 (less because it has switched to a higher gear in the meantime), 6,2 per 130, 8,2 per 160 and 15 at full throttle or 200 km. at one o'clock.

In real life, you can expect to average less than nine liters if you have moderate moderation with your right foot. The steering wheel is sportively stiff and precise at low speeds, but softer and more vague at high speeds, with slightly vague feedback. However, despite its long wheelbase, the DS5 rides surprisingly well in short corners and provides a great sense of stability and neutrality in long corners and at high speeds.

Even more atypical for the DS5 is its chassis, it is not hydraulic, but classic and even quite rigid. Sports toga. While we once wrote about the C5 looking out of windows in Ingolstadt, (this) DS5 is said to smell more like Munich's Petüelring ring. Please take this very carefully. Even so equipped and powerful, it has front-wheel drive and a stabilization system that can only be disabled at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour. But it is Citroën that offers the most dynamic, prestigious and fashion brand in its size class.

So is this typical or atypical Citroën? It's easy to guess: both. And that makes it interesting.

  • You've read about one of the (most) expensive Citroëns. However, it is powerful, pleasant to operate, recognizable, special, beautiful and interesting. It can serve the businessman and ultimately the family and, of course, people who push themselves out of the gray mean.
