Short test: Dacia Sandero Stepway Black & White 0.9 Tce 90
If Dacia, of course, has a real and powerful SUV in the form of the Duster, the Sandera Stepway could be said to have taken on the role of a small crossover like the Kia Stonic, Seat Arona, Renault Captur, even before its car. the class was actually created., Peugeot 2008 and other similar models, which, in addition to the off-road appearance, only offer front-wheel drive and a slightly raised chassis, just enough to make it easy to visit slightly unkempt rubble. ...
But the Sandero Stepway has an advantage in this case, as it is based on a car that is quite reliable in itself. On tarmac surfaces, and especially on highways, you may want better handling, but that more than satisfactorily makes up for you on bad gravel roads where too many road tires will stop it before chassis weaknesses.
A surprise especially the engine. Renault's three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, like many of its competitors, otherwise has a rather modest displacement, which does not reach nine deciliters and consumes 90 "horsepower" from it. But even if on paper it may seem a little undernourished, it turns out to be the complete opposite while driving as it develops its power with considerable enthusiasm. You won't be able to achieve high top speeds with it, but it will be more than part of all other requirements, including the desire for dynamic acceleration. Fuel consumption will also be moderate enough to keep fuel costs at a reasonable level.
In terms of interior, the Sandero Stepway is no different from other Sanders and Logans, even in other tested versions of Black & White equipment, which, for example, took over the air conditioning control unit from the Renault Clio, where we found that the seats would be more comfortable, they could be a little stiffer and have longer seats, that the steering wheel is still only height adjustable, and that the car is still more modest. But since we don't even expect more from Sander, on the other hand, it surprises us with a lot of equipment, among which stands out the reliable infotainment system, which, as we have always found, offers little but works well. But maybe by today I can offer something else, for example, a connection to a smartphone?

evaluation
The Dacia Sandero Stepway is a serious upgrade to the Sandero that flirts heavily with even the poorer gravel roads, so you could even call it a Duster little passenger.
We praise and reproach
open space
engine and transmission
appearance
the steering wheel is adjustable only in height
soft seats with too short rest area
infotainment system is reliable, but may need to be updated
