Short test: Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet Trekking

Panda Trekking is a mixture of Panda 4 × 4 and the regular, that is, the classic road version. In fact, it's closer to the all-wheel-drive sisters, as you won't be able to tell them apart at first glance, but you'll immediately notice that they're both a good two inches taller than the classic, and both have standard 15-inch rims with M+S tires. there is no all-wheel drive, so it has a Traction+ system.

If these tires are not the best solution for asphalt pavement, they will come in handy on gravel, sand and mud. As long as the two-wheel drive has enough grip to get the job done, you can enjoy comfortable chassis and power steering despite holes, ensuring the steering wheel doesn't tire softer hands. However, since it doesn't have all-wheel drive, you should avoid deep mud and high snow as the Traction + system (the electronics brakes the less-grip drive wheel and adds torque to the wheel, which brings you home again). for small puddles or shorter sections of rubble to your hilltop huts.

The lack of two-wheel drive is also noticeable in fuel consumption: on our standard lap, we measured 4 liters in the 4×4,8 version (published in the previous magazine!) and only 4,4 liters in the Trekking version. The difference is small, but at the end of the month, when you've used up your entire tank of fuel, the penny is saved up for a more modest snack. So if you don't work for mountain rescue, trekking is a good alternative to escaping the asphalt jungle.

The Panda has many shortcomings, such as the longitudinally adjustable steering wheel, high seats, some edges on the dashboard and in the storage compartments are too sharp, the ergonomics of the steering wheel are not the best, and the head restraints are hard like concrete, but there are also many good and good solutions. It's nice that I had to explain my feelings twice to the ladies behind the wheel of this city car at a red light and, of course, give the price, the engine spoils the torque at lower rpm, and the transmission is accurate enough despite only five gears. With shorter gear ratios and more torque, the Panda thrives best in the city crowd, and it takes a little patience (and stamina) on the highway. The equipment was also enough: there was no shortage of air conditioning, parking sensors, radio and airbags, and a pinch of prestige was provided by leather accessories on the seats and doors.

The Trekking version is so similar to the Panda 4x4 that I don't blame most of the people who ask if four-wheel drive is good. As I said, this Panda has no all-wheel drive ...

evaluation

  • If you don't need four-wheel drive, as you sometimes only drive on slightly poorer rubble, and you like a taller, planted panda, then the Trekking version will suit you.
