Short test: Fiat Tipo 1.6 Multijet Lounge

Fiat offered three body styles with Tip, which significantly expanded the range in the lower middle class, as its Bravo ancestor only had a sedan, and even its predecessor Stilo could not boast a sedan body. We tested all three versions in the test, and at the very end we got the five-door Tipo, which can best qualify as the successor to the Bravo in terms of bodywork.

Of course, this is a completely different car, which, unlike its predecessor, works much more universally and, in one way or another, is liked by a larger and more diverse circle of people, which was also conceived by the designers.

The five-door Tipo station wagon differs from the Tipo station wagon version mainly in the trunk. This one is a good 110 liters less, and the 440 liters is still roomy enough for most daily needs, unless of course you have a large family or an active lifestyle with great transportation needs. By folding the back bench into a relatively flat bottom, it can also be usefully extended. Only a rather high loading edge can interfere with it.

In terms of engine and transmission, this is the exact same 1,6 horsepower 120-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder with six-speed manual transmission as found in all the models we've tested so far, including the estate. The van is even slightly better than the sedan in measurements, but the differences are so small that we can attribute this to the weather rather than the actual performance differences. The five-door Tipo uses a little less fuel than a van, but even here the difference is very small and depends mainly on the driving style of those who are behind the wheel.

The Test Tipo had the best accessory kit and was therefore quite expensive, but you can still get a well-equipped car for a lot less money if you accept that there is a smaller screen on the dashboard and the air conditioning is manually controlled and that there is no radar cruise control, reversing camera and other accessories that would otherwise greatly enhance comfort.

evaluation

  • The Fiat Tipo in the five-door version is not as spacious as the station wagon, but there is enough room for everyday needs. It is definitely a well-equipped and motorized vehicle with good handling characteristics.
