Short test: Ford Focus ST Caravan 2.0 EcoBlue 140 kW (190 PS) (2020) // Mini globalist

Of course, Ford isn't the only brand to come up with this combination. During the same time they offer something similar on Volkswagen or Škoda. All suppliers consider it ideal if there are enough buyers for these types of vehicles. In fact, those who decide to pay a little more for their mid-range car will get some useful additions, including sports ones. Make a bargain purchase. At least according to the verified Focus ST... The experience of the US-German-British brand is multifaceted. I just wrote down the origin.

There's not much American in this Focus - the trademark blue oval and the eternal search for a buyer to get a good enough car for the money is definitely on this list. The British took care of the engine design and excellent road position, although the Germans probably agreed with this direction. Not far from the Nürburgring is Cologne, Ford's chassis engineering department. The Focus's German feature is that they chose a lot in a design based on the Wolfsburg model. It has been equipped with a number of technical solutions for which the ST mark is ideal. For example, I would say that on his driving wheels electronic differential lock (eLSD). Also pleased is the switch for selecting various driving modes (also with "Track mode"), which will come in handy with the support mode and fairly direct steering control (EPAS). However, if you opt for the station wagon version, you won't get electronically controlled dampers (ECDs). At least with the current Focus they are very successful. Thus, we can conclude that the Focus ST is a kind of mini-globalist that has collected a lot of good things from different sources for a rewarding and inspiring ride.

The only common comment I heard about my test machine has always been: "But a turbodiesel is not the best solution for the ST." This is very weighty, but if you soberly and in the daily operation of the car focus on such a drive, then it is easy enough to find enough arguments specifically for ST with a turbodiesel! It is true that a 2,3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is faster, of course, much more powerful, it has 280 instead of 190 "horses"! Then it will be more convincing if we look only at these truly "athletic" qualities. I myself would have chosen this version of the engine in a five-door version.

But when you sit for several days behind the wheel in the Focus ST station wagon, when you fit well (Reestablish) sports seats, when you listen to the turbodiesel spinning during moderate driving (of course, with the help of sound settings), how comfortable it is to drive despite the 19-inch (winter) tires, you can also justify your decision with several arguments... Last but not least, there is another important aspect of this thinking: the turbo diesel engine offers much lower operating costs. Of course, it is more difficult for them to get the drive wheels dirty and not convince others with sound, but the ST turbodiesel also does all the other usual "exercises" of such cars correctly.

The standard standard equipment has been further developed for the ST marking. I've already written about the praise of the Recaro sports seats (even the big 19-inch wheels are an integral part of ST-3 equipment), but there are tons of little things that make us feel different than normal. Concentrate. There are also electronic safety assistants (adaptive cruise control and lane control), and adaptive dimming is available for the LED headlights. The head-up screen ensures that driving data no longer needs to look at the sensors on the steering wheel. The 8-inch center touchscreen also takes over any additional data or control of the infotainment system and smartphone displays.

So the turbo-diesel Focus ST in this version is designed for the less sporty heated heads that still have an excellent cornering position. and even though they are athletic, they can take the whole family and a few things with them. Then the alternative is in another way.
