Short test: Ford Mondeo wagon 2.0 TDCi (103 kW) Trend

The 1.135-mile distance was printed by the trip computer when I filled the 70-liter fuel tank to the top in the middle of the test. The figure shouldn't surprise me, after all, the average consumption before that was only 6,1 liters, and on our typical 100-kilometer circle, the Mondeo consumed only five liters of diesel fuel. Be that as it may, Ford was not kidding about the Eco label.

But in fact, this does not mean anything special. Optimizing motor electronics, that's all they did. Of course, it's not superfluous that the Mondeo transmission is designed for a very long time, so even on highways you can drive very economically in sixth gear, but also not that the engine is otherwise flexible at very low speeds and therefore can be ease of use of large gear ratios.

A good thousand miles safe and sound? That would mean at least ten hours of driving. It's true that the Mondeo, despite its age, sits well, that the ergonomics are right, and that the kilometers go smoothly and nothing tedious, but you'd better treat yourself to a stop, even if the Mondeo doesn't need it.

Otherwise, this Mondeo is not only economical in terms of consumption, but at least as amazing as its price range and price. The exact same one costs only 23.170 € (of course, mainly because they offered it for a good six thousandth special discount during testing). This is a price that is difficult for the buyer to resist, especially as it adds a rich cockpit and a large trunk. Equipment (cruise control, parking system, bluetooth, heated seats and windshield, LED daytime running lights, rain sensor, etc.) good price. The Mondeo may be a little old, but it is still a serious competitor in its class.

  • When we add up everything that this Mondeo has to offer, and how much they ask for it, the bill comes out for a reason.
