Short test: Ford Transit Kombi DMR 350 2.4 TDCi AWD

I wonder how many opportunities there are to use such a vehicle when it comes to home. Already in the first weekend after the editorial office assigned me this bus, I was a driver as a child with a friend. Six of us rode and there was room for three more stopwatches (one in each row). Then we moved my sister before I started my studies, which by the way, "because you already have enough space," and when a friend came to visit me, they loaded the wood splitter so I could take it a few streets. Long story short, if a Transit or something like Transit ever happens to be in the house, I'll open SP and issue the invoices neatly.

In the extended version of the Transit, the driver and eight passengers are arranged in three rows, that is, they sit in a 3x3 matrix. The seats could, at least for the driver, offer more support (especially lumbar support), since such a minibus is also designed for longer trips. This is actually the flip side of most vans - why don't they have seats like (good) cars do? Only the driver's seat has adjustable tilt and right elbow support, which could be provided at least for the middle passenger in the front row.

The second row of seats is correctly located to the left, so the rear, third bench can also be accessed without folding the rightmost seat in the second row, and even with the door closed! He shouldn't be walking around the car while driving, but it can come in handy and free movement in competing vehicles is not a rule.

Also commendable is the ease of removal of the back bench, for which we do not need any tools, but only two pairs of strong hands, since the bench weighs a good 70 kilograms. After removing the bench, there are protruding attachment points, but they can also be removed with a Torx screwdriver. The rest of the entire bottom is covered in durable rubber that is washable and is reasonably scratch and shock resistant.

Rear passengers are also provided with separate air conditioning (controlled by buttons on the ceiling between the first and second benches), since the front vents alone will not be able to cool the entire car. There was no excessive heat inside, despite the high July temperatures, also due to the bright color - in black we probably would have cooked more.

The test engine was powered by the most powerful version of the 2,4-liter turbo diesel (100 and 115 horsepower are also available), and Ford even offers a 3,2-liter five-cylinder turbo diesel with up to 200 horsepower. and 470 Newton meters in Transit! Well, already 140 of them turned out to be enough stables to be able to withstand quite a solid cruising speed (at 3.000 rpm it spins at 130 km / h) and at the same time, given the size and all-wheel drive, it does not feel much thirst, since the consumption ranges from 10,6, 12,2 to 100 liters per XNUMX kilometers of the way.

Power is sent through a six-speed gearbox (only in second gear it sometimes comes with less effort, otherwise it goes well) to all four wheels, but only when the rear is shifted into neutral or. when the driver engages permanent four-wheel drive using the button to the right of the steering wheel. The all-wheel drive is meant to make it easier for the biathlon team to climb the snowy Pokljuka, but this is by no means an off-road vehicle, since the distance from the ground is the same as that of the all-wheel drive Transit. and the rear springs are dangerously low. Yes, green - passengers (especially in the rear) will hover over a hard, uncomfortable chassis when driving over bumps. Rideability is good for such a big car, visibility all around (windows in the back, not sheet metal like in vans!) is also great, and rear sensors help with parking.

Equipped as standard with a three-point harness on all seats, it has ABS with EBD, two airbags, a heated windshield and an electrically adjustable windshield, a steering wheel radio and four speakers, and the test car also had a rain sensor, rear air conditioning (1.077 euros), a high side door, an on-board computer (total average consumption, outside temperature, range, mileage) and a few other little things, for which an additional charge of 3.412 euros was paid.

For 50 thousand you could buy a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Mercedes CLK 280 or BMW 335i Coupe. Believe it or not, I prefer them because I can ride five friends and two motorcycles at the same time.

evaluation

  • A good combination of spaciousness, usability, drive and flexibility. We did not find any major flaws and if you are looking for a sports car or outdoor vehicle with a support too large for a regular trunk, we recommend the Transit.

We praise and reproach

powerful enough engine

double sliding door, easy to close

plenty of storage space

large, self-explanatory switches and levers

air conditioning for all passengers

easy removal of the rear seat

strong fastening hooks in the trunk

transparency, mirrors

rear seat placement, easy access to the rear seat

highway noise

rigid rear suspension (comfort)

only the driver's seat has an adjustable tilt and armrest

soft seats (poor support)

no mp3 player and no USB port

gearbox when shifting to second gear

inconspicuously small hook for opening the tailgate from the inside

ESP and TCS are not only available with all-wheel drive.
