Brief test: Kia Ceed 1.6 CRDI Edition // Usability in all

We already know the third generation of the Ceed and it was also among the five cars that competed for the Slovenian car title in 2019. After we learned in the first test (in the previous issue of Avto magazine) that Ceed likes to drive the third, also with a gasoline engine, we were able to test the diesel. It is new and fully adapted to the very strict requirements of the new EU 6temp standard. This means that in addition to the diesel particulate filter, it also has selective catalytic reduction (SCR) along with an active emission control system. In short, it emits less carbon dioxide (according to the WLTP measurement standard of 111g per kilometer when it comes to our tested sample). In the tested Ceed, the engine is the most convincing detail. Surprised by the performance, because under the hood there was a more powerful instance, that is, one with 100 kilowatts or more at home, with 136 "horses". It goes well with a slightly redesigned chassis design. The Ceed is now a very quiet and smooth vehicle when driving in almost all conditions. Ride can sometimes be hampered by larger bumps, but there is a significant improvement over the previous Ceed. It also gives a feeling of better stability and safer handling, so we have nothing to complain about.

The materials in the cabin are also pleasing, this is no longer "plastic" of a very cheap appearance, even the dashboard and seat covers are included in the list of noticeable improvements.

We can also talk about progress in equipping various electronic assistants, although here, as Sasha Kapetanovich noted in our first test, we do not understand the designers who believed that the lane keeping system was so important and necessary for general safety - the acquisition of what it must turn on every time the car is restarted, thus erasing the driver's will so that he "can't afford it". An add-on for automatic dimming of Ceed headlights is also useful. The Edition Ceed also has a fairly large seven-inch center screen. Nearby is a rear view camera with a clear picture of what is displayed behind the rear of the car. The infotainment system is completely normal, the menus on the screen are simple, and the sound part and the ability to connect to the phone via Bluetooth are also satisfactory. Ceed also supports smartphone connectivity via CarPlay or Andorid Auto. At least for Apple phones, I can write that with such a connection, the driver gets everything necessary for modern navigation through traffic jams.

Unlike all of today's electronically assisted junk, it should be noted that Ceed has something that will be an important buying argument for many - a conventional handbrake lever. It's true that it takes up some space in the middle between the two seats, but the feeling that the Ceed has enough "analogue" brings something along, but it also allows the handbrake to be used when the driver chooses to do so. , and not always when you have to start the engine, as in some "advanced" cars ...

A powerful engine can be a source of wonder at how quickly fuel consumption can rise - if we have too heavy a foot. But the result in our normal circle is also significantly higher than the official data "promise". That's how this Ceed fits into the overall impression of all Kia cars, and it takes a lot of effort to drive really economically.

On the other hand, when buying, it is necessary to check all the options provided by the Slovenian distributor, their jokers can reduce the price. The same as before the trip, even before buying: you can act economically.

evaluation

  • The Ceed will continue to be attractive due to its good equipment as well as its attractive looks, and we cannot blame it for its spaciousness. A good buy if you're looking for an average and it's not the most important mark on your body.
