Short test: Kia ProCee'd 1.6 CRDi LX Vision ISG

Let's start with the reverse side: ISG stands for Start / Stop. It works well without excessive vibration when stopping or starting the engine, and does not shut off the engine prematurely. It was cold enough during our test so it didn't work in a normal circuit, but this Pro Cee'd still achieved a fairly low average consumption, i.e. five liters, and at temperatures that allow ISG to work, it would be even less.

LX Vision is the third best piece of equipment you can afford in Pro Cee'd. If you go beyond the equipment level, you also get a rain sensor, an LCD color screen for the radio, LED taillights (LED daytime running lights front with automatic headlights are standard on the LX Vision) and a self-dimming rear view mirror. With such equipment, such a Pro Cee'd will cost 1.600 euros more than the test one. Too much? Perhaps this is true, because even with the LX Vision equipment, such a Pro Cee'd is a car in which the driver does not get bored much. The air conditioning is automatic and does its job well, the rear parking system is enough for most drivers, the Bluetooth hands-free system works smoothly, and since there is cruise control and a speed limiter, the equipment is really sufficient.

It's a shame the designers couldn't make better use of the display between the counters, as it only shows one important information at a time, although it has enough room to easily display more than one. In fact, there is no need to show only how much it is set all the time, for example, when the driver has a speed limiter turned on and it is impossible to control other data on the on-board computer.

The Pro Cee'd sits well behind the wheel, even if you're above average, and it's not hard to find a comfortable driving position. The lower edge of the side windows is quite high, which some will really like (because of the sense of security), some will simply not like it. Access to the rear seat is easy enough, but of course only one door on the side means parking spaces might be tighter at some point.

Motor? Quiet enough (though there is something to work on), powerful enough, economical enough. He's not the best in his class, but he's not serious either.

And such a label is appropriate for such a Pro Cee'd as a whole, especially when you consider the price and equipment. Those looking for the latest fashion and technology in this class will probably find it too easy, those looking for just a cheap car will prefer to resort to something even cheaper, but if we look at the car rationally, through price-performance that such a Pro Cee'd offers, however, is not far from the top.

  • It could be cheaper, it could be even better equipped (but more expensive), but just like it was tested, the Pro Cee'd is probably the best compromise between price and performance.
