Short test: Škoda Kodiaq RS 2.0 TDI 4 × 4 DSG (2019) // Perfect Czech

For most things in life, people create an established path that we walk or live. Habits, needs and desires are formed on it. In most cases, people throughout their lives also choose the car brands that we prefer, but of course we also have brands that do not.

Some are subject to pressure from the public, or at least the opinion of friends, acquaintances, even neighbors. In general, Slovenes love to be liked. We in no way think first of all about ourselves. And when Škoda is mentioned, many people find countless excuses. Why not because it bothers this or that. In fact, some people still avoid the brand because they don't like it or because they don't know enough about it.

But Škoda is no longer just a Czech brand. In fact, it would be interesting to know how much of this really is. There may be some design freedom, but if you think about it, Czech designers have been ordered in the past to correct the design of a study announcing a new car. But not because it would be inconvenient! Of course, this is much more than just car manufacturing. This is a huge concern, and the Germans have included the Škoda brand for a reason.

The vast majority of people are aware of this and therefore think of the Škoda brand differently. German leadership, German technology, German engines. Can you get bored at all?

And to be honest, with Škoda, which has the abbreviation RS next to the name, no. None if it's a Kodiaq RS, no way. Almost everything speaks in its favor - the crossover class is still the best-selling one, and the RS label brings great (read powerful) engines and even better equipment.

There is nothing special about the Kodiaq RS. It is true that it is only available with a diesel engine, 240 "horses" is not enough?? Add to that all-wheel drive, automatic transmission and equipment - and that's just the standard, of which there are many - the package is already ideal for many. The test machine was more than three thousandths more expensive than the base machine, and additional equipment was chosen that would not even protect itself. So an already good package has been greatly improved.

Dream, fairy tale? Not really! It's a shame, as already said, Czech is more than just a name. Most Volkswagen components are not cheap.. Which, of course, means that the once satisfying but extremely affordable Škoda is no more. This is an equivalent car, but it has the same price. You know - some music for little money. The return journey is the same. You won't get much for a little.

After all, 240 "horsepower", 500 Nm of torque, seven-speed automatic transmission DSG and four-wheel drive are not available for a song. Even the Kodiaq RS doesn't work with the exterior, it's cheap. Even the already mentioned equipment is not inferior to any other Škoda. The trip is fine for that. Power creates even more torque. It should be noted that the Kodiaq RS weighs almost two tons, which means that the laws of physics also apply. But all the components mentioned work great and above all decisively.

For Kodiaq RS, the track is a small snack, not afraid of turns... The body sways a little and the seats provide a satisfactory level of lateral grip. What about fuel consumption? Closely dependent on the weight of the driver's right leg. 6,3 l / 100 km. The average consumption that we have achieved on a typical lap in real conditions is not easy to achieve. Except, perhaps, for a very patient and heartless driver. The RS markings offer enough for the driver's heart to beat even a little and the brain therefore sends meaningful commands to the legs (correct, of course).

Yes, RS is also something special in Kodiak. Both in terms of content and price.

evaluation

  • Of course, Kodiaq RS is the best car among its fellows. For those who want the perfect package, there is nothing to think about, but it is true that the Kodiaqa Sportline cannot be ignored. The electricity shortage is not so great, and the savings in euros are quite significant. Of course, there will be no exclusivity, but those who just want a good driving experience will not be disappointed. However, if you want to enchant your friends, acquaintances and especially your neighbors, the addition of the Republic of Slovenia is a must.
