Mazda's performance curve is still on the rise, with the CX-25 being the main culprit, accounting for 5% of Mazda's total sales. After five successful years, Mazda has unveiled the second generation of its most successful crossover, which in the new version will face much more "bloated" competition than it did when it hit the market.

Since the CX-5 is the model that represents Mazda on a global level, sometimes there is a version in our market that is not exactly interesting to populists, but is still a good indicator of what the brand can do if the buyer demands everything, inclusive.” So, the most powerful, equipped and, of course, the most expensive CX-5 G194 AT AWD Revolution Top came to our test. If you didn’t guess by the name, let’s say this is the most powerful gasoline version with all-wheel drive, automatic transmission and the highest level of equipment. From the above, it can be said that only the automatic transmission is a mandatory “equipment”, all other components can be toned down through a more rational purchase. But still, in this way they can at least show Mazda what it looks like when one of their models “caresses” the premium class.

In addition to the redesigned exterior, which is now slightly more aggressive, with narrower headlights and a larger and sharper mask, the CX-5 has also undergone a design overhaul and material rework internally. The improved driver's work environment with a new leather steering wheel is more consistent, and by raising the center console by 60 millimeters, they achieve better ergonomics. Also, a lot has been done on the soundproofing of the cabin and its usability. So, now the rear bench is heated at the highest level of equipment, the backrest is movable, and a USB connector has been added to the center console. Behind the passengers is 506 liters of luggage space, which can be accessed through an electrically raised tailgate.

The CX-5 already offers a wide range of equipment and assistance systems as standard, and the list of Revolution Top equipment is so long that it is worth highlighting only the most interesting ones. One of them is, for example, a new windshield traffic data projection system, which replaced the previous windshield projection system above the meters. There's also radar cruise control, lane keeping assist, park assist, emergency braking, etc. From a technology already well established in the market, we were missing digital gauges and a slightly more advanced infotainment interface.

It is difficult to attribute any criticism to the power unit. The 2,5-liter petrol engine satisfies your appetites even after driving faster, but if you get a green mind and lower the accelerator pedal, it can shut off excess cylinders and thus save fuel. That being said, the automatic transmission is ideal for the CX-5 and is almost a must-buy choice. All-wheel drive will also come in handy, especially on winter days when Mazda knows how to ensure a secure and balanced driving position with its G-Vectoring Control.

If you choose the all-inclusive Mazda CX-5, you can't get more than 40 thousand. This is the price at which you won't get a “good day” in premium saloons for a similarly equipped vehicle. In reflection ...

evaluation

  • We continue to be impressed with Mazda's new KODO design language variations, and it's even more convincing that Mazda is improving the build quality and choice of materials. The most powerful and most richly equipped CX-5 is a good proof that Mazda can approach the premium segment in terms of quality, but still stay in the real positions in terms of price.
