Short test: Mazda2 1.3i Tamura

Mazda is well aware of this as they have prepared a similar sales campaign for the Mazda2 that they have used in the past for some other farewell models. The recipe is simple: Offer a set of accessories that in one way or another means the necessary evil in a package at a better price. Of course, everything needs to be spiced up with some visibility, which is reflected in attractive visual accessories.

Despite saying goodbye to this generation of Mazda2, the design is still fresh enough to keep up with the times. The Tamura equipment package is even more convincing with its striking red color, graphite rims, tinted windows, black exterior mirrors and a roof spoiler, especially of the younger generation.

A quick look inside shows us that history is repeating itself. While Mazda lagged behind in design, Mazda was able to revitalize the image with chunks of polished red plastic, red-stitched seats and a leather steering wheel. If these attributes affect the first impression, what about the user experience? We've always praised the Mazda2 for its usability, handling and workmanship. Even the familiar 1,3L 55kW petrol engine still does the job well with this body type. As always, the excellent five-speed manual gearbox deserves praise, which with short strokes and shifting precision is reminiscent of the Mazda MX-5 gearbox.

It was clear that in order for such a Mazda2 to compete in the market, its price had to be reduced to a level below those “magic” € 10. It is understandable that due to this, we can quickly detect the lack of some pieces of equipment in such a Mazda. The fact that the rear windows are manually moved and that there is no mirror in the passenger visor is somehow chewed. You can also survive without an on-board computer and an outside temperature indicator.

The fact that there are no daytime running lights and that the dimmed lights have to be switched on and off each time has already made our nerves a little nervous. We do not apologize in any way for the lack of a vehicle stability control system and the slipping of the drive wheels. Moreover, the target group of users of such a vehicle is young drivers. No one would blame Mazda if this deuce stayed on the market for another year or so. However, since we know that they are about to solemnly take their hat off the new generation, it is clear that they had to prepare for the "old" models. Such a tamura is a great choice as a first car for a baby, but for God's sake, be sure to give him ESP.

evaluation

  • A car that is a thing of the past with its attractive design still retains its youthful appearance. With the Tamura equipment package, Mazda is well prepared for the next generation. But be sure to try to get an extra discount in the form of a stability control system.
