Short test: Mazda2 1.5i GTA

But the look has never been controversial. Even the original offered dynamic lines and a pleasing design for such a small car, and of course Mazda's designers haven't changed that. Still, the new headlights and grille fit well into Mazda's new family lineup.

In our test car, the more powerful 1,5-liter engine with 102 "horsepower" also made a good impression, making the rather dynamic car even more fun. Of course, we would have liked a different season even more, because instead of Pirelli winter tires, which are perfect for snow, the rings will be equipped with summer ones, which would give Mazda a little more fun when cornering.

Well, this dynamism has a downside, as the Dvojka doesn't shine as a family and comfortable car on our rutted roads, but it doesn't want to be either - a version with a smaller and more fuel-efficient engine is more suited to these tasks.

But if we go back to the most important reason why the smallest Mazda seems so funny: the engineers paid the most attention to weight reduction in its design (many years ago, we would have commented on the current increasing focus on this topic).

Thus, an inflatable engine with a capacity of just over a hundred "horsepower" easily accelerates a car weighing just over a ton, and in normal motion it seems to be even more powerful. Maybe someone will miss sixth gear, but even this only happens when we remember while driving on the highway (at a given maximum speed) that we could save a few cents on fuel costs at the same speed at lower speeds. At that time, the average gas mileage - about nine liters - is really a little doubtful.

With moderate driving on other roads (outside the city), the average consumption is much closer to the promised norm - about seven liters, and for less it’s really worth making an effort, but with such a peppy engine, rarely will anyone do this.

“Our” five-door Mazda2, which is why, that is, additional side doors to facilitate access to the rear seat, are still suitable for family use, although there is not enough space in the back, especially for larger passengers. Smaller ones, that is, children, are welcome, as we found out in our recent comparison test of smaller family cars, which also featured an “uncleaned” Mazda2, and there is plenty of room in the back for a child car seat.

Only with luggage, the family will have to be frugal, because only 250 liters of luggage is not much. It will be better if we can "steal" some space from those sitting on the back bench and at least partially overturn the back.

The tried and tested Twin was actually the largest a customer could get with this model.

This richest piece of equipment has been given the misleading GTA label (the first two letters have absolutely nothing to do with the words "grand turismo"). But the equipment is really good, so for at least 15 thousand we don't feel like we wasted it unwisely.

The equipment also includes an electronic stability program (according to Mazda DSC), leather steering wheel with control buttons, automatic air conditioning, electrified windows, rain and night / day sensor (we don't need it, it would be better if we had daytime running headlights ), cruise control, heated seats, low-profile tires and a sports package.

evaluation

  • Mazda2 is a light and interesting car, conditionally suitable for family transport, but more suitable for pleasure for two. Due to its origin (made in Japan), it is not the most attractive in terms of price.

We praise and reproach

dynamic and lively character

secure position on the road

passive and active safety

powerful and relatively economical engine
