Short test: Mazda3 G120 Challenge (4 doors)

"Is that a six?" - I had to answer this question quite a few times during the test. Interestingly, if we approached the car from the front, my interlocutors were completely confused, as the differences between the big six and the small three would be easiest to notice with just a meter in hand. What about the back of the car? There were also some scratches on the head, saying, of course, that it was a six, although it was only a trio of limousines. Whether this similarity is an advantage or disadvantage for Mazda is up to each individual, and we can certainly congratulate the designers who designed the Mazda3 to make it look bigger and more prestigious.

It is already known in our country that four-door sedans are not as popular as five-door versions, also called hatchbacks. Although we are treating them unfairly: the Mazda3 4V has a trunk size of 419 liters, which is 55 liters more than the version that will generate more sympathy in the dealership. Of course, due to the shape of the body, the barrel added in length most of all and lost a little useful height, but centimeters do not lie. You can push more into it, you just need to pay attention to the load capacity (especially when the rear bench is lowered, when we get an almost flat bottom), because compared to the five-door version, nothing has changed. And when we compare like this, let's also say that the sedan, despite the same engine, is more maneuverable up to a hundred kilometers per hour and has a higher top speed.

The difference is only 0,1 seconds from the start from zero to one hundred and three kilometers per hour at maximum speed (198 instead of 195 km / h), which is insignificant. But again, we see that the numbers don't lie. The sedan is better than the station wagon in almost everything. In the test, we had a car that sits at the bottom of the Challenge equipment hierarchy, as it is the second of five options. It had 16-inch alloy wheels, push-button engine start, electrically adjustable side windows, some leather on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake lever, two-way automatic air conditioning, cruise control, hands-free system, collision avoidance system. when driving around the city (Smart City Brake Support), but did not have parking sensors, LED technology on the headlights or additional seat heating.

The list of equipment, especially taking into account the seven-inch color touch screen, is therefore rich, in fact, we lacked only parking sensors and navigation abroad. The engine is very smooth and familiar with the six-speed gearbox, and the driver's cooperation is best known for its fuel consumption. If you drive the 88-kilowatt engine more dynamically, the fuel consumption is always more than seven liters, but if you drive calmly and follow the fuel economy guidelines, then you can also drive with only 5,1 liters, as we did by the norm. knees. And with this result, Mazda engineers can laugh, as it proves that small turbocharged engines are not the only solution.

Apart from two really annoying things, the lack of a system for switching between daytime running lights and night lights and the lack of parking sensors, since the Mazda3 is also more opaque due to its larger rear end, it really lacks none of that. Well, maybe we're just missing out on the kind of attention that mostly gets only the five-door version ...
