Short test: Mitsubishi Outlander CRDi

Gone are the days when Mitsubishi reigned supreme in Dakar with its Pajero or when Finnish rally virtuoso Tommy Makinen won the Lancer race. As if wishing to shake off this sporting pedigree, they swam into elegant new waters. Interestingly, they always knew how to make good SUVs. This also applies to the Mitsubishi Outlander CRDi SUV, which in its history has managed to attract attention with its uniqueness and, above all, ease of use.

The tested Outlander was equipped with a turbodiesel engine with a six-speed automatic transmission and 150 horsepower. We can write without thinking - a very good combination! While it's a big car with at least seven seats and could be a good family car for anyone who also needs all-wheel drive, fuel consumption isn't high. With some attention during the ride and an environmental program, he will drink seven liters per 100 kilometers.

Even more important information is how you will cover this distance! Comfort is written with a capital letter in it, although it is true that unwanted vibrations like to break into the cabin on a bad road. The engine and transmission work in harmony, the off-road steering is indirect and doesn't have much feedback, so it's great on the highway. It's a pity that life in the front seat is too cramped for taller drivers, and that the infotainment system isn't exactly exemplary when it comes to user interface.

It's a great all-wheel drive that ensures you get to where you don't even dare. After all, in the shade, the cabin's distance from the ground is too far to speak of a serious SUV (19 centimeters), off-road tires and body sensitivity. Dirt under the wheels is not a hindrance to him.

And because the equipment also includes radar cruise control, lane keep assist and collision avoidance, the Outlander is comfortable and safe enough for families.

final grade

This Outlander is a serious candidate for all those who like to ski when the sky is full of fresh snow and go on trips away from paved roads - but still want comfort and safety.
